Another Victim For Deeb

Shaun Deeb is off to a hot start this afternoon as he's just busted another opponent. With an early position raise to 3,200, and an all-in bet from the small blind for 12,200, Deeb flat-called in the big blind, allowing the original raiser to come along.

The flop was {4-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and Deeb fired out 8,600 into a dry side pot to force a fold from the other live player.

Deeb: {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Small Blind: {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and river the {6-Spades} and Deeb now climbs to 105,000.

A Little Knockout

Tony Cousineau moved all in for his last 18,000 before the flop, and Jonathan Little made the call to put him at risk. As has been the case for many of the short-stacked shovers so far today, Cousineau was in bad shape when the cards were shown down:

Cousineau: {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts}
Little: {A-Clubs} {K-Spades}

The board came a raggy {6-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, and Little's ace-king kickers give him the pot and the elimination of the dangerous Cousineau. Little is up to 79,000.

Tsianos Sent Off

Theodoros Tsianos was all in before the flop with his short stack against Mike Gracz, and the news was not good:

Tsianos: {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs}
Gracz: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}

There wasn't any help from the dealer on a board of {3-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {3-Spades}, and Tsianos has been sent home after a short day.

Gracz - 130,000

Deeb Dances With The Magician

Antonio Esfandiari and Shaun Deeb have just tangled in an early pot with Deeb getting the upper hand. Deeb raised preflop with Esfandiari calling on the button and a third player coming along in the big blind.

The flop fell {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} and play checked to Esfandiari who fired 5,400. The big blind folded but Deeb put in a check-raise to 13,000. Esfandiari made the call and the {3-Diamonds} hit the turn.

Deeb came out with a bet of 16,600 and Esfandiari asked for a count of Deeb's remaining stack. Deeb had 28,000 behind and Esfandiari decided to give it up.

Deeb jumps to 71,000 with Esfandiari down under 100,000.

ZaichenKO'd

We walked up to a flop of {Q-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {7-Hearts} to see Andrey Zaichenko all in against Samuel Iola for about 15,000 chips. Zaichenko was ahead with {K-Spades} {Q-Spades}, but he'd need to fade Iola's flush draw and {8-Spades} {9-Spades} in order to double up.

The {8-Clubs} on fourth street gave Iola a few more outs to work with, and the {J-Spades} on the river filled in his straight to earn him the pot and the knockout. Zaichenko is out, and Iola is up to about 75,000.

Welcome Back to Day 2!

Good afternoon from the Rio, and welcome back for moving day of the big $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em event. This event drew a stacked field of 792 runners, and we've still got 205 of them left as Day 2 dawns. That gives us quite a full day of work as we play ten levels to get us as close to our final table of nine as we can manage before the bags come out early tomorrow morning.

With such a strong field, it's no surprise to find so many familiar names atop the leader board after one day of action. Mohsin Charania and Antonio Esfandiari are just outside the top ten, trailing new bracelet winner James "Flushy" Dempsey, Jeff Williams, and Chino Rheem by a few places. Everyone's chasing Steven Goosen, though, his finishing count of 229,000 putting him out in front of the pack with two days of pokering left.

We're about twenty minutes away from our scheduled starting time of 2:30 p.m., and the final preparations are being made to the tournament tables. The chip bags have come out over here in the Red section of the Amazon Room, and the dealers are busy divvying them up and double-checking their decks. All signs point to an on-time start, so we'll be back in just a few minutes when the cards go flying.
