David "Bakes" Baker continues his climb up the leaderboard. Just now he was open-raising again -- this time from under the gun -- and the table folded around to Eli Elezra who reraised to 6,300 from the big blind. Baker then repopped it to 27,000.
Elezra tanked, then folded his hand face up -- . Elezra slips down to 9,000, while Baker is now up to 80,000.
Our two sets of brothers are keeping tabs on each other. Nick Binger recently busted, and passed along some words of encouragement to his brother Michael before he left.
Meanwhile, Robert Mizrachi just called over to his brother, Michael, a.k.a. "The Grinder." Again, Robert was asking for chip count. "27!" said Michael. "97?" said Robert hopefully. "27!" repeated Michael. "How am I gonna get 97 out of these guys?" Michael's table laughed in response.
Then came a hand in which Mizrachi raised to 2,000 from the hijack seat, and David Grey called from the button. Both drew one, then Mizrachi bet 4,000. Grey hemmed and hawed before letting his hand go, flashing a face card as he did.
Mizrachi smiled as he scooped the pot. He'd held ! He now has 30,000.
Dan O'Brien raised to 1,500 before Erick Lindgren moved all in for about 13,000. O'Brien called and drew one. Lindgren was pat. O'Brien tabled the to Lindgren's and sent him to the rail.
J.C. Tran just won a hand in which he'd drawn one card, then took the pot down with an unanswered bet. He then laughed, sharing with the table his mistake on the hand.
Apparently he'd been dealt a pair of sevens originally -- the -- along with three other hearts. He then accidentally tossed the rather than the , thus setting himself up potentially to complete a flush. Luckily he didn't, although he said how he felt a bit anxious once he realized he'd discarded the wrong seven.
That crisis averted, Tran still is sitting with a below average stack of 22,000.
Freddy Deeb raised to 2,000 and then Brett Richey reraised to 6,000 and then the player in the big blind re-reraised to 20,000. Deeb folded and then RIchey move all in for 26,200. The big blind the extra few thousand chips.
The big blind drew one and Richey stood pat. Richey tabled a and his opponent drew a . Richey doubled to about 55,000 and is looking like he's ready to go deep. Remember, Richey was down to his last 700 chips at one point before the last break.
It's getting late here in the Rio. After 2 a.m. And "Poker After Dark" is playing silently on a big screen television just off to the side of our event.
In fact, three of the players in currently in this event -- Tom Dwan, Doyle Brunson, and Eli Elezra -- also appear in tonight's episode of "PAD."
At Elezra's table, play nearly ground to a halt as players became engaged in watching a hand between Elezra and Dwan play out on the screen. In the hand, Dwan succeeded in bluffing Elezra out with a bold river bet, eliciting a round laughter from Elezra's current tablemates.
From middle position, Erik Seidel raised to 1,700. Steve Zolotow called from the cutoff seat and then Dan O'Brien reraised from the big blind to 7,800. Seidel got out of the way and then Zolotow called.
O'Brien tapped the table, signifying that he was standing pat while Zolotow drew one. After the draw, O'Brien moved all in and Zolotow called. O'Brien showed an , but was beat by Zolotow's .
Zolotow doubled to just about 56,000 while O'Brien was knocked down to 38,000.
