Hello and welcome back to the Rio for the 2010 World Series of Poker!
Today marks Day 1 of Event #39: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout. Last year this event saw 999 players and Jeff Carris defeated Jason Somerville heads up for $313,673 and the gold bracelet. The maximum number of entrants today is 2,000.
The plan is to play one heat today, another tomorrow and then the third and final heat Wednesday where a champion will be crowned.

Like any other WSOP event, Event #39 has attracted many familiar faces including Theo Tran, Erik Cajelais, Matt Graham, Dennis Phillips, Jeff Madsen, Joe Sebok, Barny Boatman and Shannon Elizabeth.
The notables continue to roll in:
Dennis Phillips, David Pham, John "The Razor" Phan, Dwyte Pilgrim, Kirk Morrison, Edward Sabat, Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Brandon Cantu are also playing today.
Kirk Morrison and an opponent got all the chips in the middle on a flop. Morrison held against his opponents and could not improve.
"You owe me a beer mate," Morrison said with a grin.
Morrison is always cheerful, even if he only has 1,000 chips.
With the board reading , Erick Lindgren was faced with a 325-chip bet from an opponent. He called.
The turn brought the and Lindgren's opponent led for 475. Lindgren again called.
The river was the and Lindgren's opponent checked. E-Dog took the opportunity to bet 725 and his opponent called.
Lindgren opened which was no good against his opponent's . After the hand, Lindgren is down to 3,200 chips.
Four players saw a flop of including Men "The Master" Nguyen. Action checked to Nguyen who bet 350 from middle position. One player called.
The turn was the and both players checked.
The river brought the and Nguyen led for 1,000. His opponent called but quickly mucked after Nguyen opened for a rivered flush.
Nguyen is off to a fast start, already up to 7,800 chips.
Jeff Sarwer opened to 125 from the cutoff and was called by a player on the button.
The flop fell and Sarwer continued for 200. His opponent raised to 500 and Sarwer called.
The turn was the and Sarwer check-called 750 from his opponent.
The fell on the river and Sarwer checked to his opponent who checked behind. Sarwer opened for a winning flush and his opponent flashed for a set of jacks before mucking.
"Wow," Sarwer said. "I didn't think you'd check behind."
Sarwer's check may have cost him some chips, but he's still off to a good start with 6,000 to his name.
