Stuart Rutter: (XXX) /
Opponent gentleman: (XXX) /
We found Stuart Rutter betting out on seventh street, a hefty pot already in the middle. His opponent, who didn't have many chips behind, thought about it for a moment or two, but ultimately folded.
Rutter, who has spent the entire day at the Table Of Death (current other residents - Jason Mercier, Bryan Micon, George Lind and Luis Velador), is now flying high on 29,000.
Mickey Doft bet 1,200 on fifth street and David Chiu made the call. On sixth street it was Chiu who bet 1,200 and Doft who called. They both took their last card down and again Chiu bet 1,200. Doft thought about it for awhile and made the call.
Chiu showed for a 7-5-3-2-A low and Doft tapped the table. With grace and composure he slide his cards in the muck and was left with around 6,300.
One player was already all in by the time we arrived on seventh street. Katja Thater, with up, bet out and got a call, but the caller mucked when Thater turned over for the wheel. The all-in player mucked as well, and Thater was up to 36,000.
Team PokerStars Pros Lex Veldhuis and Jason Mercier have joined the hordes of the busted at the rail.
There are still a good few Team PokerStars Pros in this, though - Katja Thater and Tom McEvoy are both near the top of the chip counts as we head into the last few minutes of Day 1, and Dario Minieri, Joe Hachem, Darus Suharto, Johannes Steindl, Greg Raymer, Alex Kravchenko, George Lind, Pat Pezzin and Daniel Negreanu are all still in the running, albeit on wildly differing stacks.
Chip Jett has been left without any chips and in need of some speedy, perhaps airborne transportation out of the Rio. We didn't get to see what he was holding, but it couldn;t beat his opponent's nine low.
Eight levels of razz have been and gone, and our starting field of 365 has been reduced to 147, according to the board.
Our chip leader as we head into the day looks to be one Scott Packer - on 76,500, he is way out in front as we head into Day 2.
A lot of big names remain in the field, though. David Chiu, Katja Thater, Tom McEvoy, Jennifer Harman and Bryan Micon are still in on big chips. On more middling stacks are the likes of Greg Raymer, Alex Kravchenko, and Ted Forrest. And among those bringing up the rear on smallish stacks are Mickey Doft, Justin Bonomo and Luis Velador.
We'll be back in the Amazon Room tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. when we'll be playing right down to a final table.
