Paez Gone

From the cutoff seat, Steve Jelinek raised to 4,000. Raul Paez was in the small blind and reraised all in for a tiny bit more. Jelinek made the call.

Jelinek held the {A-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} and Paez the {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}.

The board ran out {8-Clubs}{7-Spades}{4-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs} to bust Paez from the tournament as Jelinek made a low of 7-5-4-3-A and an eight-high straight for the high.

Chen Falls Short

Hubert Chen was all in pre-flop and called by Michael Jacobs. Chen had a two-way hand with {a-Spades}{3-Spades}{j-Clubs}{9-Spades} but Jacobs turned over four well-connected cards, {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Chen let out a noise of disgust and concern when the flop came {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} to give Jacobs' hand some drawing power. Jacobs filled a queen-high straight with the {9-Clubs} turn and sent Chen out of the tournament, just short of the money, when the {5-Clubs} fell on the river.

Jacobs Holds

On the flop of {6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, Michael Chappus checked to Michael Jacobs. He fired 15,000 and then Chappus raised to put Jacobs all in. Jacobs made the call with the {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and Chappus held the {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}.

The turn was the {Q-Clubs} and the river the {J-Clubs}. Both missed Chappus. With the better low and a pair for the high, Jacobs was able to double to 79,000 while Chappus dropped to 107,000.

Ever Closer

We're down to eleven nine-handed tables now, which means that we're less than 18 eliminations away from the money. Expect play to slow down as the short stacks try to turtle their way into the cash.

A Chop is a Win for Hellmuth, Longfellow

Karen Longfellow, Ryan Yamasaki and Phil Hellmuth were the three players to a flop of {q-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {6-Spades}. Longfellow had first action and bet 5,600. Both of her opponents called to the {5-Spades} turn, which everyone checked. When the river fell {4-Diamonds}, Longfellow moved all in. That bet folded Yamasaki, but Hellmuth called with {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}, the nut flush and the second-nut low. Longfellow mustered up a bad flush and the nut low, with {a-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {q-Hearts} [10], to chop the pot and preserve her tournament.

Hellmuth has about 68,000. Longfellow has roughly 48,000.

Hellmuth Doubles

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

We caught up with action on the flop as every other table had already gone on break. Phil Hellmuth checked to flop of {Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} to Ben Lamb. He fired 5,200 then Alan Cutler called. Ryan Yamasaki was next and raised to 25,400. Hellmuth tanked for a while before calling all in for 20,100 total. Lamb folded and then Cutler folded as well, leaving just Hellmuth and Yamasaki heads up for the turn and river.

Yamasaki held the {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, but was behind the {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs} of Hellmuth, who had flopped a full house.

The turn was the {4-Clubs} and the river the {7-Hearts}, keeping Hellmuth's boat best and more than doubling him up to 64,000 in chips. Yamasaki dropped to 47,000.
