Crowe Pecks at Pekka's Stack

Owen Crowe
Owen Crowe

Pekka Ikonen limped from the button, Shawn Busse also called from the small blind, and Owen Crowe checked from the big blind.

The flop came {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. It checked to Ikonen who fired 105,000. Busse folded, then Crowe check-raised to 360,000, forcing a swift fold from the Finnish player.

Crowe is around 5.2 million, and Ikonen just about at 1.5 million. Busse sits in between them -- literally and on the chip counts -- with about 2.6 million.

Busse Bets, Wins

Shawn Busse raised to 185,000 from the button, and both Owen Crowe (small blind) and Pekka Ikonen (big blind) called the raise.

The flop came {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{k-Spades}. Crowe checked, and Ikonen pushed out a bet of 275,000. Busse, acting very deliberately (as he routinely does), pushed out a raise of 675,000. Crowe tossed his hand quickly, and Ikonen only paused a moment for letting his go, too.

Check-Raise It

Pekka Ikonen opened the pot on the button, and Owen Crowe called the standard 180,000-chip raise.

The flop was {10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Hearts} and Crowe checked. Ikonen fired a 225,000-chip bet and Crowe tanked.

After a while, Crowe popped it to 850,000 chips and Ikonen folded,

Pekka Ikonen Eliminated in 3rd Place ($212,600)

Pekka Ikonen - 3rd place
Pekka Ikonen - 3rd place

Shawn Busse opened with a raise to 185,000 from the button, then Owen Crowe reraised to 500,000 from the small blind. Pekka Ikonen responded by pushing all in over the top for his remaining 1.3 million. Busse folded, and Owen called.

Owen tabled {A-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Ikonen {Q-Spades}{J-Hearts}. The flop came {6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, and the turn the {2-Hearts}, meaning Ikonen was hoping for a queen, jack, or heart to win, or a five to split the pot. But the river was the {2-Spades}, and he's out in third.

They're heads up!

Break Time

The final two players got a few hands in before reaching the end of the level and another 20-minute break. No flops seen as yet by Owen Crowe and Shawn Busse, with all hands between them thus far either ending with single raises or open folds.

During that stretch, Crowe chipped up a few more to 6.715 million to Busse's 2.67 million.

Back in a few for the conclusion!

One for Busse

On the second hand back after the break, we saw the first flop of heads-up play. Shawn Busse opened the pot on the button with a 200,000-chip raise and Owen Crowe called.

The flop ran out {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} and Crowe check-called a 250,000-chip bet from Busse. The turn card was a {a-Hearts} and Crowe checked. Busse fired a 475,000-chip bet and Crowe eventually folded.

Busse is now up to 3,000,000 chips and Crowe slipped to 6,300,000.

Shawn Busse opened with a raise to 200,000 from the small blind/button, and Owen Crowe quickly responded by pushing all in. Busse grimaced, then looked over at Crowe as he considered what to do.

Finally after a minute, Busse let the hand go. He's down to about 2.22 million now to Crowe's 7.1 million.
