Presto Fails Phillips

Dennis Phillips
Dennis Phillips

Team PokerStars Pro Dennis Phillips had been up close to the 6,000-chip mark, but had slipped back rapidly to just 1,000 chips when the following hand began.

A player in middle position, also short-stacked, opened by raising all in to 1,250, then Yegor Moroz reraised all in from the cutoff for 3,200. "Get me back in this game," said Phillips as he called with his remaining chips from the big blind.

Phillips showed {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. The middle position player tabled {A-Clubs}{9-Spades}. And Moroz showed {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}.

The flop pretty much sealed it, coming {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Spades} and giving Moroz a flush. The {J-Diamonds} turned, meaning Phillips wasn't completely drawing dead, but the {3-Spades} on fifth street meant Moroz had scored a double-knockout that included the third-place finisher in the 2008 WSOP Main Event.

Moroz has 7,000 now.
