We picked up the action on the flop in what turned into a huge three-way pot. The board read when we walked up to the table, and there was about 35,000 already in the pot. First to speak was Frank Rusnak, and he fired out 19,500. Joe Gotlieb made the smooth call, but Brandon Holmes wanted to play for more. He reraised the pot, making it 97,500 straight and leaving himself with just a couple thousand chips behind. Rusnak raised again, folding Gotleib quickly and getting the rest of Holmes' remainder into the pot to put him at risk.
Rusnak turned over for top pair, but he would soon find out that he had some kicker problems. Holmes proudly opened up his , in great shape to scoop the massive pot.
The turn opened up some chop possibilities, but the on fifth street locked up the pot and the more-than-double up for Holmes.
After the largest pot of the tournament thus far, Rusnak was left with just 2,000 chips, while Holmes soared into the chip lead with 275,000.
James Dempsey raised to 8,000 from middle position, and big blind Bryan Pardoe potted it. Dempsey four-bet when it came back around to him, and Pardoe called all in for everything he had left. Let's flip a coin, shall we?:
Dempsey:
Pardoe:
Pardoe would not be happy with the outcome as the board fell in Dempsey's favor: . Three pair beats two pair in this case, and Pardoe could not improve to stay alive. He's out in 26th place.
Steve Yea raised to 10,000, and Joe Serock three-bet to 30,000 straight. Yea moved all in for about 70,000 total, and Serock quickly made the call with the bigger stack. With Yea at risk, the cards were on their backs:
Yea:
Serock:
Another flip. It's that time of the day. The pair held again this time as the board ran , and Yea has been eliminated.
Brandon Holmes raised to 10,000 from the button, and JJ Liu reraised to 40,000 in the small blind. Holmes four-bet the pot, and JJ Liu put herself all in for 147,500 total. She turned up , and she was comfortably ahead of Holmes' .
She would stay out in front on a board of , doubling Ms. Liu up to just a hair under 300,000. As quickly as Holmes built his massive stack, he has relinquished it; he's right back down to 120,000 all over again.
Clark Hamagami opened the pot to 14,000 before Melissa Hayden three-bet him all in. Hamagami called for his last 36,000 total chips, turning up . He was behind but drawing live against the , and it was in the dealer's hands now.
He apparently was a Melissa Hayden fan, running out a board of . Hayden's naked ace was enough to win the hand and earn her the knockout, chipping her up to 195,000.
Clark Hamagami put on a good show here over the last two days, but his event has come to a close in 24th place.
In early position, John Kranyak raised to 11,000 before Stephen Simm moved all in for 37,000 straight. Kranyak called, leaving just 7,000 chips in his own stack and bringing about the showdown:
Kranyak: (pretty good)
Simm: (very much better)
There was no queen and no funny stuff on a board of , and Simm doubled up to about 85,000.
A few hands later, Kranyak put his few remaining chips into the pot preflop, and he was looking for a triple up against Joseph Williams and Armen Kara. Kranyak had , and he missed everything on the board. Williams made the best hand with his , scooping both the main pot and a small side pot and knocking Kranyak out in the process.
