Joe Gotlieb limped in (whaaa?!) from middle position, and Melissa Hayden did the same from the small blind, drawing a check and a look at a free flop from big blind JJ Liu.
The dealer spread out , and Hayden checked. Liu bet out 9,000 and Gotlieb called before Hayden snuck in a check-raise to 40,000 total. Liu called and Gotlieb quickly ducked out, and the two ladies went off to the turn heads up.
It brought the and check-check, and both players checked again when the filled out the board.
Hayden showed up for one pair, and it was good enough to win the pot. Liu mucked her cards, dropping to 195,000 and pushing her opponent up to 275,000.
All of Table 371 just stood up in unison to sweat an all in, so we knew something significant was going on. Sure enough, our intrepid field reporter brought us this gem:
Under the gun, James Dempsey opened to 16,000 before Kenneth Krouner three-bet to 60,000 total. When the action came to Joe Gotlieb, he potted it, enough to cover both of his potential opponents. Dempsey quickly made the call all in, saying, "Time to run good," as he did. Not to be outdone, Krouner slid his chips in as well, putting a pot of nearly a half million chips in the middle of the table. Cards up please, gentlemen:
Dempsey:
Krouner: (oof)
Gotlieb: (also oof, but one flush draw at least)
Despite all the standing and sweating, there wouldn't be much excitement on board. The dealer ran out blanks: . That's going to be the end of Krouner's day, and Gotlieb drops all the way down to 120,000.
On quite the flip side of things, James Dempsey is once again the commanding chip leader with 470,000.
Steve Chanthabouasy opened the pot with a 20,000-chip raise and Chan Pelton went all in in the hijack seat for 52,000 chips. Chanthabouasy eventually called.
Showdown
Chanthabouasy:
Pelton:
Board:
That's a double up for Pelton, and he's now up to 110,000 chips.
On the very next hand, Joe Gotlieb managed to pull a double up against Melissa Hayden to crawl his way back to 240,000. Hayden has slipped back to about 155,000.
Scott Haraden open-raised to 19,000 from the button, and Joe Gotlieb potted it from the big blind. Haraden called all in for about 80,000 total, turning up . He was in a good spot to double up as Gotlieb tabled his inferior .
The on the flop was a nice sight for the at-risk Haraden, and the board of secured his double up to 164,000.
After an up-and-down level, Joe Gotlieb has finally been relieved of his remaining chips. JJ Liu raised to 20,000 under the gun, and Gotlieb called in position.
The flop came out , and Gotlieb called another 20,000-chip bet. The fireworks came on fourth street as the dropped off the deck. Liu knocked the table this time, and Gotlieb bet the pot. Liu check-raised big, and Gotlieb called all in for about 115,000 total.
Despite his powerful draw, Gotlieb was drawing to only two outs, needing to hit that straight flush in order to fade elimination. The river made his straight, but the was the wrong color, and Gotlieb's hand was not good enough. He has been knocked out of the field, moving Liu all the way up to 415,000 in the process.
James "Flushy" Dempsey raised to 16,000 to open the pot, and Melissa Hayden three-bet to 60,000. Dempsey reraised it right back, and Hayden called all in for about 105,000 total, and she would not like what she saw at showdown:
Dempsey:
Hayden:
Ah, but things would get better for Ms. Hayden. The flop came down , giving her the lucky set of fours and putting her two cards away from a double up. The on fourth street and on fifth sealed the deal, doubling Hayden up to 215,000. Flushy is still just fine, but he's taken a big hit back to about 330,000.
Under the gun, Melissa Hayden made it 23,000 to go, and Scott Haraden came along with the call in postion.
The two of them went off to a flop of , and Hayden continued out with a bet of 30,000. Haraden called, and the hit fourth street. Hayden checked this time, and Haraden took his cue to bet 45,000 at the pot. Hayden promptly check-raised all in, and Haraden made the call to put himself all in and at risk.
Showdown
Hayden: (overpair)
Haraden: (full house)
Haraden shot out of his chair and let out a beastly, "Yes!!!" as he made a lap around the table with his chest puffed out.
River:
Haraden apologized profusely to Hayden for his celebration, but he was clearly thrilled to be raking in double-up chips. He's shot himself to 280,000, and Hayden is all the way back to a depressing 55,000.
