The Shark is Coming

Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

A player in middle position opened to 1,000 and Humberto Brenes made the call for a significant chunk of his remaining stack. In the small blind, Brian Hawkins three-bet to 3,750, and that was enough to fold the original raiser. Brenes, however, made the call all in for his last 2,725 chips, putting himself all in and at risk. The news was good:

Brenes: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}
Hawkins: {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts}

The board ran out safe for Humberto and his cowboys: {J-Spades} {8-Clubs} {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {6-Hearts}

That spells a much-needed double up for Brenes, pushing him up to about 7,500. Hawkins has slipped a bit, but he still has twice the stack of Brenes.
