Lose Some, Win Some for Moon

Back-to-back hands for 2009 November Niner Darvin Moon resulted in one pot being pushed away from him and one pot being pushed towards him. First, Moon called an early-position raise to 1,125 from the big blind. He checke-raised a {5-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop from 2,100 to 5,000. His opponent called. Both players checked the {3-Clubs} turn and {6-Diamonds} river.

"I got the nine," said Moon. No good. His opponent showed down two kings, {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, to take the pot.

The very next hand, Moon and the same player tangled from the blinds. They were part of a a limped flop of {6-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}. Moon's opponent bet 1,200, with only Moon making the call from the small blind. Both players checked the turn when it fell {a-Hearts}. Another ace, {a-Spades}, hit the river and drew a bet of 2,200 from Moon. His opponent called with pocket sevens, which were in second place to Moon's trips, {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}.
