Interesting Matchups

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Every once in awhile, against the odds, two people that are friends or rivals happen to face each other early in a Day 1 tournament. It has to happen sometimes, right? Well today it is happening a lot. Fellow Brit's Sam Trickett and Liv Boeree are seated right next to each other, as are fellow Full Tilt Pro's Eli Elezra and David Benyamine. Funny men Gavin Smith and Andy Black find themselves opposite each other and just days after squaring off in the final three tables of the $10,000 Pot Limit Hold'em Event, Jason Somerville and Chris Moorman will once again have the chance to outwit each other.

As the day advances and players bust and tables break, we will continue to keep an eye on this developing trend.

"Show Me the Bluff"

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

On the button Isaac Haxton min-raised to 200 and the big blind raised to 450. Haxton called and the flop came {8-Clubs} {4-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}. The big blind bet out 600 and after a short thought Haxton folded.

"Show me the bluff," Haxton said. The big blind turned over the {3-Spades} and Haxton said, "There was one of those on the flop."

Laak Staying Chatty

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Phill Laak called a 250 raise in late position from the player under the gun. The flop hit {K-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} and the UTG player checked. Laak bet 350 and was called. The {4-Spades} brought checks from both players and the {A-Clubs} fell on the river.

The UTG player checked and Laak had 1,050 in his hand considering to bet. He set the chips down and checked, then mucked after UTG tabled {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}.

"If I bet you call?" Laak asked the player. He did not receive a response.

One Less ME Champ in the Room

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

The 2006 WSOP Main Event Champ took his seat late in Level 2 and has just made his exit. He was all in for 1,375 and out of rebuys. He held {A-Hearts} {J-Hearts} and was up against a player in middle position that held {6-Clubs} {6-Spades}.

Board: {6-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {7-Spades} {3-Diamonds}

Jamie Gold didn't improve and made his way to the rail.

Boeree Squares Off with Trickett

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante
Liv Boeree almost done
Liv Boeree almost done

The first of the duel matches we talked about earlier is all but over.

On a board of {8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Sam Trickett checked to Liv Boeree who fired out 600. Trickett min-raised to 1,200 and Boeree thought for a bit before moving all in. Trickett announced call and Boeree immediately knew she made a mistake. "Whoops," she said.

Tricket turned over {A-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for a wheel and Boeree's {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} was drawing to a split. The {A-Hearts} river paired her hand but was no help to over come Trickett's straight.

The good news is that she still has 25 left and you know what they say about a chip and a chair. If Jack Strauss were still with us, it is safe to say he would be a believer in her right now.

Tilly Finds a Needed Double

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

With no rebuy lammers left and just 850 tournament chips in front of her, Jennifer Tilly moved all in from middle position. The hijack gave her action but not necessarily the kind she wanted. Her {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} was well behind the {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} of her opponent.

However, the flop brought help. {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs} rolled off the dealers fingers and Tilly dodged the redraw with a {J-Clubs} and {2-Hearts} turn-river. She is now up to 1,850 and has some breathing room for the time being.

November Niner Out

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

Jared Michelizzi was in the big blind and bet 1,000 on a flop of {10-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}. James Akenhead called and the turn came {5-Hearts}. Michelizzi bet 3,000, Akenhead shoved and Michelizzi called.

Akenhead: {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}
Michelizzi: {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds}

Akenhead needed an ace on the river to save his tournament, but he bricked when it came {7-Diamonds}.

Shak Knocks One Out

Level 3 : 50/100, 0 ante

David Singer opened for 250 in middle position and a late position player moved in for 1,175. Beth Shak was on the button and reraised to 3,500. Singer got out of the way and the hands were tabled.

Shak: {K-Spades} {J-Hearts}
Late Postion: {2-Spades} {2-Clubs}

Board: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {8-Clubs}

With that elimination Shak is up to 12,500.
