Paul Pierce: from downtown ... to Bustville
Paul Pierce: from downtown ... to Bustville

It's no lie - Boston Celtics legend Paul "The Truth" Pierce has been eliminated from this event.

The action folded to California's Casey Stewart who raised to 850 from middle position before Pierce reraised to 1,500. All the others got out of the way and Stewart four-bet it, putting Pierce at risk. Pierce decided to call all-in and the cards were tabled:

Stewart: {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Pierce: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}

The board was spread {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Pierce was fouled out. We can also report that Kara Scott has also been eliminated after having been crippled in an earlier hand.

Forrest Tries a Check-Raise-Bluff and Fails

We found Ted Forrest mixing it up at Table 58 just a few moments ago calling a raise preflop in the big blind. The Under the Gun player who had raised preflop, continued his aggression on a flop of {3-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades} by betting out 600. The small blind made the call, and then the action was on Forrest who decided to move all-in. After tanking for a good couple of minutes the Under the Gun player made the call while the Small Blind folded.

Cards were flipped and it was Ted Forrest's {K-}{J-} versus his opponent's {8-}{8-}. The check-raise-bluff didn't exactly work for Forrest as the next two cards came out two misses, a {10-} and {10-}.

A Hard Way To Go

Level 8 : 200/400, 50 ante

We walked up on this hand just as Dan Smith's opponent called his all in. Smith held {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} and had to catch to beat his opponent's {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs}. The flop came {A-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} and Smith was ahead. The board finished {7-Clubs} {10-Clubs} and his opponent caught runner-runner diamonds and made a flush. After a quick count of the stacks, Smith was just barely behind and out of the tournament.

Smith's tablemate, Scott Seiver, told him as he left that he'd show him how to win one of these.

Cajelais Cast Away

Level 8 : 200/400, 50 ante

We got to Erik Cajelais' table just in time to see him move all in for his last 1,500 with {10-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}, but he ran straight into the {A-Spades}{3-Diamonds} of Rob Perlman.

The dealer spread the board of {4-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Cajelais' day was done. We're now down to 756 players as we approach the final break of the day.

Play Resumes

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

The cards are back in the air! Two more levels will be played before we bag and tag for the night.

As the tournament supervisor gave the order to shuffle up and deal, he announced that the rate of attrition for this tournament has been at around five players eliminated per minute. With 756 players now left in the field, if that rate stay the same for the final two levels, it would mean that only 156 would be left after the tenth level!

Klodnicki Picks Up Chippies

Our PokerNews crew caught the action four-handed over on table 23 on a flop of {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades}; the small and big blind players checked to Men "The Master" Nguyen in the under the gun position. Nguyen also checked, and Chris Klondicki led out for 1,000 from the button.

The small blind called, but the big blind and Nguyen folded, making it heads-up to the turn of the {5-Diamonds}, which both players checked before the small blind led out for 2,100 on the river of the {10-Hearts}.

Klondicki called and the small blind showed {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}, which was no good against Klondicki's {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.
