Sarwer Soaring After Massive Score

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

We passed by Table 288 and saw towers of chips being moved into the pot. The player in the small blind was all-in for his short stack and Jeffrey Sarwer, who had called the all-in, was facing a raise of 60,000 from another player sitting in middle position. Sarwer, perhaps feeling pot committed after calling the all-in, decided to make the call.

The turn card came {4-Clubs} and the man in middle position pushed all-in for his last 12,000 chips. Sarwer called and heard his opponent ask "You filled up?" Sarwer shook his head to indicate he had not made a full house and the second all-in player stood up to reveal his {7-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for an open ended straight draw and the nut flush draw.

The first all-in player tabled the {K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Spades} for two pair, tens and fives, and it was Sarwer's turn to expose his hand: {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{J-Spades}{3-Spades} for just a wheel straight draw. In typical Omaha fashion, any number of river cards would tilt the outcome in each player's favor. As it stood, the short-stacked player who initially went all-in was in the lead with his two pair.

River: {J-Hearts}

Sarwer had missed his wheel draw but caught a jack on the river to give him two pair, jacks and fours, counterfeiting the all-in player's hand. The second all-in player missed his plethora of outs and Sarwer was the last man standing, eliminating two players and building his stack to just under 200,000 chips.

Wolfe's Aces Snowed In By Set of Fours

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

On a flop of {3-Spades}{Q-Spades}{4-Clubs}, Steve Wolfe made a small bet and Evan Snow went all-in. Wolfe called and tabled the {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a pair of aces and the nut flush draw. Snow had him beat with his {K-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} for bottom set and would need to fade aces and spades to score the double-up.

Turn: {6-Diamonds}
River: {9-Diamonds}

With that, Snow's set of fours held up and he doubled his short stack to a little over 35,000.

Nick Binger Bringing The Heat

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

A player in late position raised Nick Binger's big blind, making it 4,500 to go and Binger came along for the ride. The flop fell {4-Hearts}{9-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Binger checked to his opponent. The late position player fired 12,000 into the pot and Binger immediately reraised to 41,000.

This was enough to move the other player off of his hand and Binger showed his {7-}{8-}{9-}{10-} for top pair and a powerful wrap draw.

Rollercoaster Day for Wolfe

We don't know what the action was, but when we saw half of Table 287 standing up we ran over to see what was going on. Steve Wolfe was getting involved in another huge pot as he had called the all in of Jonathan Lane.

Wolfe: {9-}{Q-}{5-}{10-}
Lane: {8-}{Q-}{Q-}{6-}

The cards on the table read {10-}{J-}{4-}{3-}{8-} giving Wolfe a winning straight and a lot of chips to make up for his recent decline.

Prince Patel Makes A Royal Entrance

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

We missed the action ourselves but a player rushed over to the PokerNews reporting desk to inform us of an extraordinary hand involving former chip leader Steve Wolfe and Emil Patel. Apparently, Wolfe and Patel got into a confrontation in which all of Patel's chips were at risk, with Wolfe seeking to pad his already dominant chip stack. The flop read {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-} when the action escalated and what happened next is straight out of a poker movie.

Showdown:

Wolfe: {K-}{K-}{5-}{6-}
Patel: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{10-}(X)

Wolfe had hit the flop hard and made top set with his pocket kings. Patel was still alive with his royal flush draw and was looking for a suckout on the turn or river, needing a jack or diamond to take the lead.

Turn: {10-}

Wolfe filled up on the turn, making kings full of tens and his already massive stack appeared poised to grow even larger. Patel was left with a single card in the deck that could save him and had to hit the mother of all poker hands, the royal flush, to score the victory.

River: {J-Diamonds}

The dealer delivered the miraculous one-outer, completing Patel's royal flush and launching him towards the top of our Day 2 leaderboard. Wolfe's stack was brought back down to earth with the bad beat and he will have to start from scratch if he hopes to regain his previous momentum.

Break Time!

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

The remaining players have fled the Amazon room in search of sustenance as we have reached our first twenty minute break of the day.

Sands Sacks Weisner With Flush On River

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

David Sands raised to 3,700 before the flop from early position and Melanie Weisner three-bet the pot, making it 11,900 to go. After a bit of confusion over the size of the initial pot, which was cleared up by a third player who stated "In Pot-Limit Omaha, the players are always right when it comes to chip counts." After the correct calculations were made, Sands called and the pot swelled to 23,800 total.

Flop: {10-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}

Weisner continued her aggressive line and slid 20,000 into the middle, but was unhappy to hear Sands announce "Pot...all-in." She appeared to know this meant trouble but made the call with her {2-Spades}{A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a pair of aces. Sands revealed the {Q-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for top pair on board and an ace kicker.

Weisner was ahead at the moment but in Omaha, the next card can change everything. The turn fell {2-Diamonds} and Sands picked up a flush draw, meaning he could now spike any diamond, king, queen, jack or seven to claim the pot.

River: {7-Diamonds}

The dealer delivered on both accounts, completing Sand's flush and giving him the huge pot. He now sits with just under 100,000 while Weisner was eliminated from the tournament.

Vilkki Victorius

When we got to Table 283 we found Rob Hollink all in against Juha Vilkki on a {K-Spades}{10-Spades}{5-Spades} flop. After all the chips were sorted out for a call both hands were tabled.

Hollink: {8-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Villki: {8-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Villki flopped a flush and was way ahead of his opponent as all Hollink could come up with was a pair of aces. There was still a turn and a river though and they subsequently came out {Q-Spades} {9-Hearts}. Vilkki's flush held and Hollink was eliminated.

Wolfe Huffs and Puffs, Blows The House Down

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

With the flop reading {K-Hearts}{6-Spades}{J-Spades}, a player bet 10,900 from under-the-gun and Steve Wolfe made the call from the button. The turn card came {10-Hearts} and the UTG player again led out, this time for 20,000 even. Wolfe came along and the river fell {2-Spades}.

Wolfe's opponent slowed down on the river and checked the action, only to see Wolfe announce "Pot" and push his stack forward. This bet was large enough to force the UTG player all-in and he eventually decided to make the call. Wolfe instantly showed his {7-Hearts}{A-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Clubs} for a rivered nut flush and his opponent dejectedly stood up to depart the tournament area.

We missed the exact cards held by the other player, but according to Wolfe, he showed down {K-Spades}{J-}{Q-Spades}{6-} for a flopped two pair and the second nut flush. This massive score catapults Wolfe to nearly 200,000 in chips as the bustouts continue to mount here on Day 2.
