Chiu-Chiu Running Out of Steam

David Chiu
David Chiu

David Chiu raised under the gun and received a call from the big blind. When the flop fell {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, the big blind check-called a bet, leading to two checks on the {8-Spades} turn. The big blind fired out a bet on the {6-Clubs} river and Chiu quickly called.

The big blind turned over {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, which ended up being good as Chiu simply mucked.

Two Levels To Go

Level 7 : 800/1,600, 0 ante

Players are back from break and will play two more levels before they call it a night. 140 players remain out of the 152 that started the day. We're sure that we'll be seeing a lot more action during these last two levels as the blinds are starting to become more significant and players are vying to place themselves into a strong position to start day two.

Landfish Bites Ike But Ike Bites Back

Level 6 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

First, on a {K-Spades}{J-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop, Steve Landfish checked and Isaac Haxton bet. Landfish called and check-raised on the {10-Diamonds} turn. This got Haxton to fold and Landfish won the pot.

Then on the next hand, the two were at it again. On a {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs}{A-Hearts} board, Landfish check-raised Haxton once more. Haxton made the call and called Landfish’s bet on the {K-Diamonds} river as well. Landfish announced “ace no kicker” and showed {A-}{4-}. Haxton turned over {A-}{9-} for an ace with a kicker which was good to win some chips back.

Laak, Stock and Barrel

Level 6 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

With only 2,700 remaining in his stack, Phil Laak raised from mid position and David Chiu called from the big blind. The flop came {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} and both players checked,

The turn brought the {9-Diamonds} and Chiu bet. Laak called leaving himself only 300 behind. The river was the {j-Hearts} and Chiu tossed out the 300 that would be Laak's all in. Laak tossed in his last three chips and Chiu revealed his {q-Spades}{3-Spades} for a pair of queens. Laak mucked his hand and was eliminated from the tournament.

And One Lady Down

Humberto Brenes raised from the hijack and both the cutoff and Jennifer Harman in the big blind called. It was checked to the cutoff who bet on the {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} flop and both other players called. On the {5-Diamonds} turn, Harman led out and Brenes called but the cutoff folded. The action was the same on the {8-Hearts} river and Harman showed {K-Hearts}{9-Spades} for a busted straight draw and only king high. Brenes turned over {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for two pair which was good and said some colourful remarks that got the table including Harman to laugh.

One Lady Up...

It looked like Maya Geller raised from under the gun, the button re-raised and Carlos Mortensen three-bet from the big blind. Both other players called and checked to Mortensen who bet on the {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop. Both other players called again as the {9-Hearts} rolled off on the turn where Mortensen bet again and got raised by Geller. The button folded and there was some confusion with the players and dealer as to what the betting was but it was heads up to the {K-Spades} on the river. Both players checked and Geller showed {A-Spades}{9-Spades} for two pair which was good as Mortensen mucked.

Traniello Loses Some Ground

A player in middle position raised and action folded to Marco Traniello in the big blind. The extraordinary hair stylist and husband to Jennifer Harman (who is also in today's field) made the call only to check the {2-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} flop. The middle-position player proceeded to bet, Traniello called, and the {8-Spades} was put out on the turn.

Again Traniello checked, his opponent bet, and Traniello laid it down.
