Karl Johansson Eliminated in 11th Place ($34,458)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Karl Johansson managed to get his whole stack all in preflop holding {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} against Andy Frankenberger's {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The flop brought great news for Frankenberger, coming {10-Spades}{4-Hearts}{Q-Spades}, giving him trip tens and a commanding lead. Frankenberger held the lead all the way through the {A-Spades} turn and the {J-Diamonds} river. Johansson was sent to the rail to collect his $34,458 in tournament winnings.

Steven Merrifield opened to 45,000 from the hijack seat, Stephen Falcon three-bet to 150,000 and the action folded back to Merrifield who went into the tank. He eventually slid out a fourth bet worth 345,000, Falcon immediately moved all in, and Merrifield snapped it off.

"Shit," Falcon blurted.

Merrifield: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Falcon: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}

There were nearly 3 million chips in the middle, making this the biggest pot of the tournament thus far. The dealer rapped the table, then delivered a flop of {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}, keeping Falcon alive and drawing to a king or running hearts.

The turn was paint, but the {q-Diamonds} did not help Falcon. The case ace - the {a-Spades} - fell on the river, eliminating Falcon from the tournament, and making Merrifield a commanding chip leader.

Preflop Action

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Owen Crowe opened the action with a raise to 40,000. It folded around to Sidney Hasson who made it 112,000 total. Right next to Hasson, Steven Merrifield four-bet the action from the button to 244,000. Crowe got out of the way and Hasson tanked for about two minutes before calling.

The board came {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and Hasson checked. Merrifield continued out with 240,000 and Hasson tapped the table and mucked his cards.

Evans' Miracle Ace

Joshua Evans
Joshua Evans

On a board of {J-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Joshua Evans led out for 137,000. Bret Hruby decided to raise the action, making it 274,000 to go. Evans announced a three-bet and Hruby instantly announced that he was all in. Evans snap called only to learn he was behind.

Evans: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}
Hruby: {9-Clubs}{9-Spades}

Hruby's set of nines was far out in the lead, but didn't stay there for long, as Evans was able to catch the {A-Clubs} on the turn, giving him a higher set. The river came {Q-Hearts} and cries of "Are you serious?" could be heard from the rail.

A disappointed Hrbuy shipped a majority of his stack over to Evans, who is now our commanding chip leader.

Chop For Lay

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Action folded around to Geoffrey Lay in the small blind who shoved his whole stack in the middle. He was snap called by Stephen Falcon in the big blind and was behind Falcon's {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Lay was holding {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

The board came {10-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and Lay was drawing incredibly thin. Fortunately for him, the turn and river came {10-Diamonds} and {A-Diamonds}, giving both players aces and tens with a nine kicker. Lay was on thin ice but has been given a second chance in this tournament.

Frederik Jensen open-shoved his last 400,000 chips from under the gun, and Joshua Evans re-jammed near the button. All other players folded, and the hands were opened.

Jensen: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Evans: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

Jensen was crushed, and could not improve when the board ran {2-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. He's out in 14th place, while Evans is still alive with over 800,000 chips.

Mickey Petersen Eliminated in 15th Place ($27,000)

Level 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante

Mickey Petersen

From late position, Mickey Petersen announced that he was all in for 355,000. Action folded to Steven Merrifield in the cutoff who announced all in over the top. The rest of the players at the table folded and the cards were exposed:

Petersen: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Merrifield: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

Merrifield was ahead preflop and had Petersen just about dead on the flop when it fell {10-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. The deal was sealed when the {A-Hearts} hit the turn, filling Merrifield up. Petersen stuck around long enough to see the irrelevant river of {A-Diamonds}. He will be awarded $27,000 in tournament winnings.
