Lack Gets Smacked by Souza's Aces

Michael Souza raised preflop and Elizabeth Lack shoved all in. Souza wasted no time in calling and it was easy to see why after the hands were revealed.

Souza: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Lack: {8-}{8-}

The board of {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} gave no help to Lack and she was sent to the rail.

Souza now has an impressive stack of 300,000.

PokerStars Team Pro Gualter Salles and the player in the cutoff got all the chips in the middle preflop with Salles {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} dominating the other player's {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}.

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{k-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and the other player was eliminated while Salles stack grew to 99,000.

Paris Again

We caught up with the action on a {K-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{J-Hearts} board where all four players in the hand checked. On the {9-Hearts} river, Bryan Paris led out from the small blind for 13,500. The big blind and button folded but the player under the gun in between them made the call. Paris turned up {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for Broadway and the nuts to take down the pot.

Slaubaugh Doubles

Cody Slaubaugh was down to his last 33,000 in chips and got them all in the pot preflop against one other player.

Slaubaugh: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Things were looking grim for Slaubaugh through the turn as the board came out {k-Hearts}{k-}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs} but then a miracle {10-Clubs} hit on the river giving Slaubaugh a pair and the win.

Baker Bests Findlay

Alex Findlay raised to 5,600 from the cutoff and was called by Amanda Baker from the big blind. The flop came {a-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Baker check-called a bet of 10,000 from Findlay. Both players checked when the {3-Hearts} hit on the turn and again when the {q-Hearts} fell on the river.

Baker flipped over her {a-Spades}{5-Clubs} which was good enough to win the pot and boost her stack to 190,000.

A Look Back at $1,000 NLHE

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

After the United States fell into recession, many poker players were looking for cheaper buy-in tournaments to splash around in. In the 2009 WSOP, only one open $1,000 No-Limit Hold 'Em buy-in event was held, aptly nicknamed the "Stimulus Special."

In 2010 the WSOP upped the number of open $1,000 NLHE events to six total.

This year there are a total of five open $1,000 NLHE events on the schedule and this tournament is the third of this year.

Below is a chart showing the winners of all the $1,000 events from 2009 through today. (Note, this table does not include Ladies Events, Seniors Events, or Rebuy Events.)

Who will be the next player to join this prestigious list of winners? Stay tuned to PokerNews to find out!
