The River is Kind to Nguyen

Level 17 : 4,000/8,000, 0 ante

John Monnette raised from the cutoff and was instantly three-bet by Sean Nguyen on the button. Monnette made the call and we were off to see a flop.

The flop came down {3-Clubs}{A-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Monnette led out with a bet. Nguyen threw out another raise and was called by Monnette. After the {5-Hearts} fell on the turn, Monnette checked and Nguyen sent out another bet, continuing his aggression. This time Monnette chose to raise him and after some pondering Nguyen made the call.

The {2-Clubs} struck the river, placing the wheel straight nicely in front of both players. Monnette checked and once again Nguyen shot out a bet. The bet was instantly called by Monnette who flipped up his {A-Hearts}{5-Spades} for a cancelled out two pair and said "Do you have a six? You can't have a six." Much to his dismay, however, Nguyen flipped up {8-Spades}{6-Spades} for a higher straight which allowed Nguyen to scoop a massive sized pot.

"I check raise him on the turn and he still calls," remarked Monnette to a friend at another table. "He's trying to be my buddy too, asking what games I play. F*** that!"

Monnette was knocked down to around 20,000 after the hand.
