Mercier Triples Up, Dan Smith Stays Alive on Mistake

Level 14 : 1,000/2,000, 500 ante

Jason Mercier is at it again, tripling up to 80,000.

Daniel Smith raised from late position to 4,800, then, on the button, Rami Boukai raised to 15,000. After a look at his hand Mercier moved his whole stack in for 26,500. Smith then also moved all in for a total of 31,000. Rami made the call with a chance to knock out two players from the tournament

Mercier was pat, Smith was drawing with a {7-}{6-}{3-}{2-} but paired up with another {2-}, and Rami was drawing with {8-}{7-}{5-}{3-} but hit a {K-}. Mercier showed {10-}{9-}{7-}{6-}{4-} to take down the majority of the pot and triple up to 80,000.

In the hand, Rami did beat Smith's hand with a {K-} to Smith's pair of twos, but after he saw that he had drawn a {K-} and that it didn't beat Mercier's hand, he mucked without thinking of the other player in the pot. Smith is now left with about 4,500 but should be out of the tournament. His (and Mercier's) lucky day.
