Day 1 of $1,000 Madness Set to Begin
Welcome to Day 1 of Event 21, $1,000 No Limit Hold'em, at the World Series of Poker. A giant turnout has already signed up and will push the Rio to the limits. Near 2,000 entrants already have seating assignments and will be spread across all three rooms the WSOP has to offer.
Last year Jason Somerville claimed his first bracelet in field that saw 3,175 entrants. He took home nearly $500,000 from a $2.8 million prize pool. Lex Veldhuis, Dejuante Alexander, Tim West and Hungarian Vlademar Kwaysser all had deep runs as well.
The Brasilia Room serves as the main room for the event. Both the Black and White Sections of the Pavilion are locked up and two full sections in the Amazon Room are expected to see action too.
Cards will be in the air promptly at 12:00 p.m. PST and registration will be open through the fourth level. We'll be playing 11 levels today as per events that garner more than 1,500 starters run longer. Follow all the WSOP action live on PokerNews.com.
