Day 2 Ends With DeTienne On Top

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Kevin De Tienne
Kevin De Tienne

Day two has just finished and the hopefuls will return tomorrow where a winner will be crowned. Kevin DeTienne came out as today’s chip leader, bagging 1,325,000. With 462 players returning for the day only 33 came out the other side. The money bubble was burst early during the first level of the day and the rest of the day saw a consistent flow of people being eliminated.

Dennis Phillips had his ups and downs of the day, but finished with a healthy stack of 576,000. Another player who was quite impressive was Allyn Jaffrey Shulman making a great run late in the day. Shulman not only is one of the few remaining females in the field she is one of the larger stacks in play, thanks to this hand.

Radwan Khuri came into the day with the chip lead and never looked back. Crossing the 500,000 mark late here on day two, Khuri managed to hit it big early and hold on to his chips for the entirety of the day and finished with 686,000 for second in chips.

Marcel Luske had a yo-yo of a day that ended with him making his exit late. Humberto Brenes, Hal Lubarsky, and Toto Leonidas all left early also.

Tomorrow all players will come back at 11:00 PM and will play down until there is one player left. That one player will walk away with $603,713 and a gold World Series of Poker bracelet. Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the up to date details.

Luske Flies To a Double

Marcel Luske (Day 1)
Marcel Luske (Day 1)

Marcel Luske, "The Flying Dutchman," just doubled up against Anthony Wise.

Wise fired 13,000 on the {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop and Luske made the call to see the {K-Hearts} fall on the turn. Wise moved all in to put the pressure on Luske, who made the call for his last 55,500.

Luske tabled the {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts} for aces and sevens along with a flush draw. Wise held just a diamond draw with the {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}.

The river completed the board with the {A-Clubs} and Luske finished with a full house. He doubled up to 175,000 in chips while Wise slipped back to 190,000.

Luske is easily the most notable face still left in the field here in Event 29: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship. With 21 World Series of Poker cashes to his credit, this marks the 22nd of his career. If Luske is able to place eighth or higher, he'll eclipse the $4 million mark in career tournament earnings.

Although Luske has no gold bracelets to his credit, he does seven WSOP final tables. His most notable finish at the Series wasn't a final table, though, but rather a 10th-place result in the 2004 Main Event, where he took home a massive $373,000. The closest Luske has ever come to winning a bracelet was that same year when he took second in the $5,000 Seven Card Stud World Championship for $120,800.

Luske hails from The Netherlands and is currently number one on both the All-Time Money List and the Number of Cashes list for the country.

Day 2 Is Here!

Day One's Massive Field
Day One's Massive Field

Day two of Event 29: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em Championship begins today with 462 players, just a fraction of the field size from yesterday. 4,128 seniors came out yesterday for their chance of winning a golden bracelet and a nice pay day. Spreading three rooms at the Rio this tournament broke the record for the largest single day start in poker history.

Today we expect the money bubble to burst fairly quickly seeing as we are only 39 people away from it. Players consistently dropped off yesterday, while a handful built up their stacks. One of those who did a tremendous job of building up their stack was Radwan Khuri who finished the day bagging 112,600 and is our current chip leader. Other notables in the field are Marcel Luske, and Dennis Phillips. Phillips played very strong yesterday consistently acquiring chips. Losing a few pots late last night caused him to dip down to 44,500, but he still possesses a healthy stack.

Today will be filled with eliminations, some happy to have made some money, some angry to not have gone further. To follow all the details stay tuned here at PokerNews for all the exciting action.
