Set Over Set

Omaha Hi/Lo:

Action folded to Daniel Idema in the cutoff and he put in a raise to 1,200, which Noah Schwartz called from the cutoff. The {K-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades} flop saw a bet from Idema and a call by Schwartz, which led to the {2-Spades} on the turn.

It appeared that Idema then check-called a bet before leading out on the {3-Hearts} river. "Top set," he said after Schwartz made the call and revealed {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

"So sick," Schwartz replied as he rolled over {K-Clubs}{K-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} for a smaller set. Despite losing that pot, Schwartz still has more chips than when he started the day; in fact, the stacks between the two men are about even at 35K apiece.

Scooper For Todd

Omaha Eight or Better

Todd Brunson started the day low on chips, but he just managed to scoop a nice little pot against Sorel Mizzi. Mizzi started off the hand by raising from the cutoff, and Brunson defended his big blind.

The flop came down {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} and Brunson check-called a 600 chip bet. On the turn the {3-Spades} showed up, and this time Brunson check-called 1,200. The river was the {5-Clubs} and now Brunson lead out for 1,200. Mizzi tanked for a bit and called, after which Brunson turned over {4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a straight to the six and a six-four-three-two-ace low.

Brunson is back up to 12,500 while Mizzi still has 24,500.

Nguyen in Trouble

Stud

Scotty Nguyen{x-}{x-} / {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Clubs}{x-}
Miguel Rodriguez Bermude{x-}{x-} / {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{2-Spades}{K-Hearts}{x-}

We just caught the action on fourth street with Nguyen in the betting lead with the high hand. Nguyen bet 600 and Miguel Rodriguez Bermude called. On fifth street Bermude paired up and got the betting lead. He threw out 1,200 and Nguyen quickly called.

On sixth and seventh street Bermude bet again and Nguyen called twice.

"Flush," Bermude announced after which he turned over {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{J-Clubs}. Nguyen glanced over at his opponent's cards and mucked his own. Nguyen is really short now and looking for a quick double up.

Fernandez Wins with Trip Kings

Stud:

Jacobo Fernandez completed with the {K-Hearts} and then called a raise from Casey McCarrel, who was showing the {J-Diamonds}. Fernandez proceeded to check-call a bet on the turn before pairing his king on fifth and leading out.

McCarrel was left shaking his hed and folded, prompting Fernandez to show his {K-Diamonds}.

Fernandez: (x){K-Diamonds} / {K-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
McCarrel: (x-x) / {J-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{5-Spades}

Early Eliminations

John Monnette
John Monnette

The day began on the no-limit hold'em round, so it's no surprise to see some of the short stacks hit the rail. Unfortunately one of those players was the defending champ, John Monnette, who began the day on the fourth shortest stack.
