One For Akkari

Picking up the action on a {J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop, there were two checks to Marco Traniello who bet. He was called by three players, including Andre Akkari. The {6-Clubs} turn saw the same action to start, with two checks to Traniello who bet. Two players called before Akkari put in a check-raise.

Traniello and one of the other opponents in the hand called to see the {6-Spades} river where Akkari bet again. Only Traniello called, but he mucked when Akkari tabled {A-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for the ace-high flush.

We're Back

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

Players are back and cards are in the air once more. Two more one-hour levels, then the half-hour dinner break, then four more levels to round out Day 1.

Late Comers

Late registrants continue to arrive at a fairly slow clip. As of now the big board is showing 267 entrants with a couple of hours — plus the half-hour dinner break — left to go before registration closes.

Among those just sitting down are Jimmy Fricke and Justin Bonomo, seated next to one another in the last row of tables in the Red section. Gavin Smith has taken a seat a table over from those two, with Matt Hawrilenko sitting one more table down.

Elezra Nearly Back to Starting Stack

Eli Elezra didn't get off to a great start today, but is working his way back up to the starting stack.

The under-the-gun player raised and Elezra called from the small blind. The player in the big blind called as well and a {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop hit. It was checked to the raiser who bet, but Elezra quickly put in a raise. The big blind folded, the UTG player re-raised, and Elezra came back over the top with another re-raise.

The UTG player called and did the same when Elezra bet the {2-Hearts} turn. The {9-Spades} fell on the river and Elezra fired another bet, but this time his opponent gave it up.

Elezra flashed the {4-Diamonds} as he collected the chips.

Following a raise from the player under the gun, Jose "Nacho" Barbero three-bet from the button, forcing folds from both blinds. The UTG player made it four bets, and Barbero called.

Barbero would call his opponents bets on each of the three post-flop streets as the community cards came {9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. Following the last call, Barbero's opponent flipped over {K-Diamonds}{K-Spades} for quads, and Barbero exhaled and mucked.

Witteles Runs Into Aces

With a raise and re-raise before him, Todd Witteles called from the small blind. The original raiser called, too, and the flop came down {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}.

A check from Witteles led to a bet from the raiser and a call from the three-bettor. Witteles called as well and the {5-Clubs} turn fell. Another Witteles check led to another bet from the opening raiser. The three-bettor folded, Witteles called, and the {J-Spades} hit the river.

Another Witteles check-call came, but he mucked when his opponent tabled {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}.

Bonomo Changes Seats, Direction

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

We're starting to see a few players bust the event here in the third hour, but most have managed to keep their seats thus far. With the occasional elimination, those late arrivers have seen their tables broken and they've relocated to take the newly vacated seats.

Justin Bonomo is one who has been moved over into the Tan section. Bonomo had slipped down around 4,000 in the early going, but just gained a few back in a blind-vs.-blind hand in which he raised from the SB, was three-bet by his neighbor to the left, and called.

Bonomo check-called the {8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop, then check-raised the {4-Diamonds} turn card, forcing a fold from his opponent. Bonomo is back up to about 5,500.
