Bubbleman

Rene Angelil
Rene Angelil

The under the gun player started off this most recent hand by putting out an innocent 4,000 bet. Gordon Vayo was next to act and he moved all in for 12,300. The table folded around to Rene Angelil in the small blind who took a few moments to ponder his course of action. Eventually Angelil decided pushing out a giant 30,000 stack of yellows was the right thing to do. Hunter Frey in the big blind then went deep into the tank. After a minute or so drained off the clock he reemerged and announced "all in" for about 49,000 more. The under the gun player folded, and Angelil quickly made the call.

Cards were tabled and it looked as though we would have two eliminations, not just one.

Angelil: {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}
Frey: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Vayo: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Vayo was in dead last and needed to desperately grab hold of an eight or he would be today's bubbleboy. Frey possessed considerable more chips than Vayo and would walk away with 171st place's money if they were both knocked out.

The flop came {7-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{Q-Spades} allowing Angelil to maintain his strong lead. The {A-Spades} on the turn gave Angelil top set, but it also opened Frey's outs; any 10 now could put the hand in Frey's favor.

Indeed the {10-Clubs} did fall on the river giving Frey the broadway straight. Vayo was eliminated when his pair of eights couldn't even come close to competing with the other two's cards. Angelil took a big hit, but still sits with over 100,000.

Elyashar Cannot Shift Akenhead

We just witnessed David Elyashar trying to shift James Akenhead off a hand, and it cost him a lot of chips to find out the answer. We joined the action in a three-bet pot with Akenhead in mid-position and Elyashar seated in the big blind.

Elyashar fired three-barrels at Akenhead. 12,000 on the flop, 20,000 on the turn and 20,000 on the river. Akenhead went with his read and gobbled them up one by one. Elyashar knew he was beaten when he turned over {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} and Akenhead showed {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} for the winning hand. It was a vital pot from Akenhead.

Steady Heinz

Pius Heinz
Pius Heinz

Pius Heinz has been steadily increasing his stack so far today. Recently we caught up with him four-betting all in for around 90,000 against John Phan. Phan sat with about 10,000 less than Heinz, and took his time deciding the right move. He took so long actually that his table broke. Heinz and Phan were the only ones at the table for a good minutes or two before Phan folded. Heinz slammed his cards down picked up his stack and moved to his next table.

Gagliano Gains Momentum

Michael Gagliano opened from the button and quickly found himself up against a 3-bet from Sami Bhatia for 12,500. Gagliano made the call and the dealer exposed the {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop. It was here that both players opted to check.

The {3-Spades} on the turn saw another check from Bhatia and a bet of 11,600 from Gagliano. After a few moments passed Bhatia made the call.

The {6-Diamonds} on the river saw a third check from Bhatia and a bet of 21,500 from Gagliano. Bhatia went deep into the tank and didn't emerge for a good three minutes. In the end though Bhatia threw it away and Gagliano raked in the pot.

It's a Gruissem End For Gaspard

Philipp Gruissem with trip nines to eliminate Gaspard
Philipp Gruissem with trip nines to eliminate Gaspard

Philipp Gruissem is one of Germany's finest exports. Last year he broke his World Series of Poker (WSOP) cash duck when he finished in 28th place in the Main Event for $242,636. But it is the European High Roller events that Gruissem is well known for, earning an impressive $2 million in live tournament winnings, mainly in those type of events. Here he is moving over the 200k mark and eliminating Jean Gaspard in the process.

We caught the action on a flop of {7-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} with Gaspard in the small blind, Gruissem in position and Gaspard check-calling a very quick 22,000 bet. The turn card was the {9-Diamonds} and this time Gaspard led for 21,500 and Gruissem made the call. Fifth street was {9-Clubs} and Gaspard moved all-in, an action that was snap-called by Gruissem. The German turned over {10-Clubs} {9-Spades} for trips and Gaspard showed {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} before taking his leave of absence. Gruissem now has 220,000.
