Event 49: $1,500 Ante-Only No-Limit Hold'em

Day 2 Started

With the Money Bubble Burst Anything Goes on Day 2

Yesterday a total of 939 players posted up cash to buy into Event 49: $1,500 Ante-Only No-Limit Hold'em which is the first ante-only event ever offered at the World Series of Poker. Astoundingly enough, the field was reduced quite quickly with tables breaking left and right throughout play yesterday. The players were about to pop the money bubble and now the final 110 will return for Day 2 play. Leading the field is Sameer Al Janedi with 177,000.

Many notable players came out to play this event yesterday only to find themselves among the majority and out of the tournament. Eugene Katchalov, Scott Clements, Vanessa Rousso, Bertrand Grospellier, Joe Cada, Jennifer Tilly, David Sklansky, Adam Junglen, and Phil Hellmuth were just some of the names to hit the rail yesterday.

While tons of known players missed out on the chance to capture this history WSOP bracelet, others are still in the hunt. Players to return to Day 2 include Justin Schwartz (104,000), Jon Turner (97,800), Erick Lindgren (71,400), Mike McDonald (68,500), Melanie Weisner (48,100), Jeff Madsen (47,300), Dan O'Brien (36,100), John Racener (16,700) and many more.

For those just catching up with our coverage of this event, it is played in a unique matter. The game is standard no limit hold'em but there are no blinds on the table. Rather, every player antes every hand and action begins with the player to the left of the button. That player then has the option to fold their hand or begin the betting.

Be sure to also stop by and check out the coverage of the final table of Event 45: $50,000 Poker Players Championship. Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi leads the way and looks to once again win the very same event that gave him his first bracelet back in 2010.

Players are moments away from hitting the felt in the purple section of the Amazon Room. Stay tuned for all of the latest updates here on PokerNews

DeMaci Crippled

Jeremy Dresch raised it up to 2,200 from early position and the next person to act was Chris DeMaci who three-bet to 7,200. Dresch made the call and both players got to see the {10-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{K-Spades} flop.

It was here on the flop that Dresch checked and DeMaci bet out 7,000. Dresch's response was to move all in, and DeMaci made a disgruntled call and cards were tabled.

DeMaci: {A-}{k-}
Dresch: {10-}{10-}

DeMaci was in bad shape with his opponent possessing middle set, a hand that surely trumped his. There were still two cards to come and anything can happen.

The {Q-Spades} on the turn gave DeMaci a gut-shot draw. Any jack on the river would put the hand in DeMaci's favor. He received no such luck though as the {6-Spades} rolled off the deck making the set of tens the best.

DeMaci Doubles Back Once Then Busts

"I've been all in the first five hands!" proclaimed Chris DeMaci as he raked in the chips from his latest double up.

DeMaci got his crippled stack in the middle with {9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} against an opponent's {Q-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}.

The flop was {6-Hearts}{A-Spades}{2-Spades} with the turn bringing the {4-Clubs}. It would have seemed that DeMaci's tournament was over, but fortunately for him he spiked the {9-Diamonds} on the river, giving him about 7,000 in chips.

However, a few hands later, DeMaci met his demise. After getting it all in before the flop, DeMaci and an opponent saw a board of {K-Clubs}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. DeMaci announced that he had ace-high and was defeated by his opponent's {5-}{5-}.

Gimbel Gains Double

After a few players limped in for 100 Harrison Gimbel moved all in from middle position. The rest of the table folded around to Jeremy Menard who drained some of the clock before making the call.

Gimbel: {A-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Menard: {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

The board came {A-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{j-Diamonds} and Gimbel managed to grab hold of top two pair. Gimbel's opponent only held two pair, kings and jacks for second best. With that hand Gimbel sits with around 25,000

Fast and Furious

Level 11 : 0/0, 600 ante

Play is moving quite fast, with tables being broken at a rapid pace. Jon Turner seems to be getting the worst of it, with his table continually breaking and him having to lug his chips every few minutes.

Turner even asked if he could exchange his chips for a few 50,000 ones in order to make his moves less strenuous.
