Juanda Slips, Doubles

John Juanda is hanging on by a thread...but he is hanging on tightly.

In a recent hand, action folded around to Juanda in the small blind. Juanda raised to 14,000 and Nam Le decided to flat from the big.

The flop came {2-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Juanda checked. Le didn't take long to put Juanda all in for his remaining 23,000. Juanda dejectedly mucked.

The very next hand, action folded around to Juanda on the button and he raised pot. Nick Jivkov put Juanda all in from the big blind and Juanda called.

Juanda: {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}
Jivkov: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}

"There are those aces he's been waiting for!" tablemate Negreanu said.

The board ran out {8-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Juanda doubled up.

Juanda is sitting on 50,000 now, but is still very much short-stacked.

Juanda On The Comeback Trail

John Juanda was down to just 23,000 earlier in the level but two doubles in a row has Juanda right back in this. Action started with Juanda in early position, and he raised pot to 21,000. It folded around to Tommy Vedes, and he put in a raise to 66,000, enough to put Juanda all in. Everyone else folded, and Juanda made the call.

Juanda: {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}
Vedes: {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}

The flop came down {9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}, and Vedes, who already seemed resigned to his fate of losing the hand, begrudgingly said "nice hand". After the {4-Diamonds} hit the turn, giving Juanda a set, Juanda said "now it's a nice hand", not realizing that Vedes had picked up the nut flush draw. Despite picking up those outs, Vedes bricked the river, as it came the {7-Spades}, and Juanda scooped the pot to get to 108,000, while Vedes dropped below 70,000.

Tabali Doubles Through Eames

It has been a rough level for John Eames, who has gone from the big stack to one of the smaller stacks remaining.

In a recent hand, Eames and Keanu Tabali got into a preflop raising war. We did not catch the exact order of action, however, when the smoke settled, Tabali was all in for 99,000 against Eames.

Tabali: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Eames: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

It was a cooler for Eames, who would need lots of help going into the flop.

The board ran dry for Eames as it came {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Tabali doubled through.

Tabali is up to 200,000 while Eames has dropped to 100,000.

River Mean to Mottur

We missed the preflop action, but Alfred Mottur got his short stack in against Nick Jivkov, and Mottur was in great shape when the cards were turned up.

Mottur: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}
Jivkov: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{7-Spades}, flipping Jivkov's outs from the three remaining jacks to the three remaining queens. The {5-Spades} on the turn gave Mottur a flush draw but changed nothing, as Jivkov was still looking for one of the three remaining queens, and one of those, the {q-Hearts}, came on the river. Mottur took the beat in stride, saying "it happens" before heading to the rail, while Jivkov collected the chips, upping his stack to 160,000

Pellegrino Snaps Off Gardenhire; Solidifies Chip Lead

We caught up with the action on a {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{10-Spades} board, where Bryan Pellegrino was in a heads-up pot with Justin Gardenhire. Both players checked the turn for a river card, which brought a {6-Clubs}. Gardenhire fired a 61,000 bet and Pellegrino tanked. After some time, Pellegrino verbally announced a call and Gardenshire said, "You win. Nice hand," before mucking his hand. Pellegrino revealed {Q-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} for queens and tens and scooped the pot.

Pellegrino is still our chip leader with 470,000. Gardenshire has slipped to 90,000.

Hale Doubles Through Werthmann

Brant Hale raised it up to 16,000 in middle position, and found two callers: Thom Werthmann on the button, and Jen-Yue Chiang in the big blind. The flop came down {a-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, and Chian checked to Hale, who fired out 22,000. Werthmann tanked for about 30 seconds before assembling a raise of 65,000, and sliding it into the middle. Chiang quickly got out of the way, and Hale rechecked his hole cards before moving all in for about 88,000. Werthman made the call, and the cards were tabled.

Hale: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Werthmann: {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Hale had flopped top two pair, but still needed to dodge a ton of outs to double up, as any heart or queen would do him in. The {4-Spades} on the turn was safe for Hale, as was the {9-Diamonds} on the river. Hale is up to 180,000 after the hand, while Werthmann drops to 100,000.

Vedes Doubles Through Ellwood

We just can't seem to get down to the final two tables over here, as there have been four or five double ups within the last few minutes. The latest benefactor was Tommy Vedes, who got his money in preflop with {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}. Unfortunately for Vedes, he was dominated by the {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} of Jack Ellwood. Vedes was well behind before the flop, but he was well out in front after, when it came {7-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Ellwood would need to catch a queen or runner runner to take the pot back, but the {2-Diamonds} on the turn and the {7-Hearts} on the river provided no help.

Vedes is back up to 160,000, while Ellwood drops to 100,000.

Eames Doubles Through Werthmann

As you can see from our recent posts, there have been a lot of double ups and no bustouts as of late.

Here's one more:

Thom Werthmann called an under-the-gun raise to 16,000 from early position and action folded around to John Eames, who raised pot to 49,000 even. The original raiser folded and Werthmann decided to flat.

The flop came {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Eames snap-shoved his remaining stack of about 20,000 in. Werthmann quickly called.

Werthmann: {Q-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Eames: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

The {9-Diamonds} turn and {Q-Spades} river kept Eames in the lead with a pair of aces and he doubled to 120,000.

Werthmann is down to 150,000.
