Day 1 of Event 5: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em Almost Underway
Welcome back to the Rio! We are coming to you from the Brasilia Room for Day 1 of Event 5: $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em. Last year’s winner was Brian Rast, who defeated Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler heads up for the bracelet. Rast outlasted 764 players to take home $227,232, and his first gold bracelet. Of course this win propelled him to a win in the $50,000 Players Championship, where he defeated Phil Hellmuth, giving Hellmuth his third 2nd place finish of the summer.
It is important to note that this is a pot-limit hold’em tournament, rather than no-limit. Obviously this means that you can only bet the size of the pot, rather than your entire stack, so eliminations will likely come slower than in the no limit events. The final table of this event was stacked last year, with Ronald Lee, Ted Lawson, and Ali Eslami, along with the heads up duel of Rast and Kessler.
Play will be getting underway shortly, and they will play 10 levels today before bagging and tagging their chips. The surviving players will return tomorrow, where we will hopefully play down to a final table. Be sure to stay tuned here to Pokernews, as we will be bringing you updates all day long!
