Julius' Turn to Double

Derek Gregory raised to 140,000 from the cutoff and was immediately met with an all-in shove for 1.295 million from Kyle Julius on the button. Both blinds got out of the way, and Gregory thought for about a minute as the tournament staff got an exact count. Eventually a call was made and Gregory did not like what he saw.

Showdown
Julius: {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Gregory: {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}

The crowd was on its feet cheering for their respective man, and the noise got even louder when the flop fell {7-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades} to give Gregory an open-ended straight draw.

"Six," one of his supporters yelled. While she was quite vocal, she was soon silenced as the {Q-Spades} appeared on the turn followed by the {7-Diamonds} on the river. Julius faded Gregory's draw and received a double.

Gregory Doubles Again....This Time Through Smith

Dan Smith opened to 120,000 from the button and action folded around to Derek Gregory in the big blind, who moved all in for about 1.45 million total. Smith asked for a count and then made the call to put Gregory at risk.

Gregory: {A-Spades}{K-Spades}
Smith: {A-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

"C'mon! Hold one time!" Gregory shouted.

The {J-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{J-Spades} board ran safe for Gregory and he got his wish - doubling through Smith up to 2.9 million.

Smith Flush With Chips

It was folded around to Dan Smith in the small blind, who raised. Kevin Schulz made the call from the big and it was heads-up going to the flop.

Flop: {4-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{6-Diamonds}

Smith led out for 165,000 and Schulz called to see a turn, which brought the {8-Diamonds}. Smith led out again for 375,000 and Schulz again called.

When the {3-Clubs} completed the board, Smith fired a hefty 1.15 million bet into the middle and Schulz quickly called. Smith turned up {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for the nut flush and Schulz mucked.

Smith is up to six million while Schulz has slipped to his last 1.1 million.

Smith Takes One Off Gregory

Derek Gregory opened to 130,000 from the cutoff and action folded around to Dan Smith in the big blind, who made the call.

The flop came {6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Smith check-called a 175,000 bet from Gregory.

When the {J-Diamonds} fell on the turn, Smith check-called again - this time for a 300,000 bet from Gregory.

Both players checked the {7-Diamonds} river and Smith tabled {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for a pair of eights and Gregory mucked.

Two-Time Bracelet Winner Doubles Through Julius

Panayote Vilandos
Panayote Vilandos

Kyle Julius raised to 125,000 from the cutoff and then called a three-bet to 300,000 from Panayote "Pete" Vilandos. When the flop fell {9-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}, Julius checked and Vilandos fired out 500,000. Julius thought for a bit before announcing, "All in," and Vilandos snap-called off for 1.675 million total.

Showdown
Vilandos: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}
Julius: {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Julius didn't have much, just an over and a gut-shot straight draw, but the latter was taken away when the {8-Hearts} turned. Julius needed either another eight or an ace on the river to eliminate Vilandos, but it was not meant to be as the {10-Hearts} peeled off.

For those who don't know, Vilandos has more than $1.4 million in WSOP earning, including two bracelets. The first came all the way back in Event #10 $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em at the 1995 WSOP for $148,500, while the second came more recently in Event #24 $1,500 No-Limit Hold’em at the 2009 WSOP for $607,256.

Gregory Doubles Through Vilandos

Derek Gregory opened to 140,000 from the button and was called by Panayote Vilandos in the big blind.

The flop came {8-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Vilandos check-raised a bet from Gregory all in. Vilandos snap-called and hands were turned face up.

Vilandos: {5-Spades}{6-Clubs} for an open-ended straight draw.
Gregroy: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} for top pair.

Gregroy was ahead, but would need to fade outs to survive. The {5-Clubs} turn gave Vilandos additional outs, however, the {2-Clubs} river bricked out for Vilandos and Gregory doubled through.
