Orange Section Filling Up

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

More and more players are taking their seats here in Event 58, with 469 entrants currently flashing on the tournament clock. As such, more tables have been opened up over in the far area of the "orange" section of the Amazon Room. These are a few of the players who have been spotted over there.

  • Eli Elezra
  • James Dempsey
  • Pius Heinz
  • Viktor Blom
  • David "Doc" Sands
  • Chad Brown
  • Humberto Brenes

All the Attention

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

There is one common theme amongst the tables here in Event 58 and that is the $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop event. Almost every table has multiple people flicking through PokerNews' live coverage of the One Drop tournament on their smart phones or iPads. And the rest of the players are watching the delayed coverage on ESPN that can be seen on the TV screens around the room. There is definitely a huge amount of excitement surrounding the tournament and it can be felt here in this very event.

Brown No Hi-Low Stranger

Level 2 : 50/100, 0 ante

Chad Brown is no stranger to the World Series of Poker and he is certainly no stranger to Omaha Hi-Low. Brown has just shy of $3.5 million in tournament winnings on his resume, with over $1 million of that coming at the WSOP. That includes a total of 37 cashes - a very impressive feat. Of those cashes, plenty of them have come in games of the hi-low kind, with Brown even having a couple of final tables in omaha hi-low events. He finished 5th in the $ 1,500 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Split 8 or Better in 2007, taking home $43,606. Brown also finished in 3rd place in the same event back in 2002.

We recently watched Brown commit all of his 1,425-chip stack on the turn of a {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} board. Three opponents were part of this hand and let go of their hands to send the pot to Chad. With that pot and his two lammers behind, Brown is currently floating just above the starting stack.

Brenes Loses Some Early

Humberto Brenes has just lost a fairly large pot here early, now sitting with just 1,250 in chips and one lammer behind. The hand in question saw a late position player and Brenes in the small blind take to a {q-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop.

On the flop, Brenes checked and his opponent bet 350. Brenes then raised to 1,250 and his opponent made the call. The {a-Spades} on the turn would see Brene's shove all in for around 3,100. His opponent, who only had around 1,500 in chips, made the call.

Brenes: {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Opponent: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades}{9-Hearts}

When the {6-Spades} completed the board on the river, there was no low pot to be seen and Brenes' opponent managed to scoop up the pot with the ace in his hand.

Back for More

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

The players are back in their seats and ready for more action. There will be a 30-minute "dinner" break at the completion of two more levels.

Bronshtein Loses One; Still Ahead

We just watched Yuval Bronshtein lose a pot where he and one opponent got all the chips in on a {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop. Bronshtein had his opponent covered by a fair amount and at this point, the two players turned their hands over.

Bronshtein: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

The {3-Clubs} turn and the {9-Hearts} river were no help for Bronshtein, as some of his chips went in the opposite direction of his stack. Despite losing that small hand, Bronshtein has managed to see his chips sit well above the starting stack.
