Rast on the Rise

Brian Rast
Brian Rast

A pot had already developed and the flop had come {K-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. Brian Rast was sitting under the gun with 3,425 pushed out in front of him — likely a raise over a post-flop bet by his opponent sitting a couple of seats over — and his opponent was responding by setting out a raise to 9,025.

Rast then made it 15,025 to go, his opponent reraised all in, and Rast called.

Rast turned over {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} for a set of jacks, while his opponent showed {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} for top two. The turn was the {5-Spades} and river the {A-Spades}, and Rast sends a player railward here near the end of Level 2 while chipping up toward the top of the counts.

George Wins While Counting Money

Matthias De Meulder raised to 500 from the cutoff and received a call from Christopher George from the button. The blinds got out of the way and the two saw a flop of {2-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}.

De Meulder continued out for 625 and action was on George who was counting down a stack of $10,000 cash under the the table. George stopped to examine the board for a moment and then tossed out a call.

The turn was the {A-Spades} and De Meulder bet 1,050. George called on this street almost without missing a beat of counting down his brick of money.

The {Q-Spades} rivered and it went check-check. George tabled {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for a pair of aces and De Meulder mucked his hand. As the pot was pushed to George he went right back to thumbing through dozens of hundred dollar bills.

Patz KOs St-Pierre

Georges St-Pierre
Georges St-Pierre

When Stephan Patz first took his seat at Table 414 earlier today, he probably didn't consider the possibility that before the afternoon was over he'd be knocking out "GSP" — i.e., Georges St-Pierre. But that's what has happened, with Patz using a turned set rather than a cross, jab, or round kick to take down the UFC Welterweight champ.

We caught up with the action on the flop, with the board showing {9-Hearts}{10-Spades}{4-Hearts} and Patz firing 1,700 into the middle. St-Pierre had been down to about 5,000 just prior to the hand, and so when he called the bet the fighter had just 2,125 chips behind.

The turn brought the {J-Clubs} and a bet of 3,000 from Patz, and St-Pierre called with what he had left. Patz had {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} — he'd turned a set of jacks. But St-Pierre was still swinging with {J-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for both flush and straight draws.

But the river was the {8-Diamonds}, and down goes St-Pierre. GSP shared a congratulatory hug with Patz before departing.

Pilgrim Presses The Action

We caught up with the action on a {9-Spades}{10-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Hearts} board, where Dwyte Pilgrim was in a heads-up pot.

Pilgrim's opponent in the hijack checked, prompting an overbet from Pilgrim for 11,000 (there was about 7,000 in the pot beforehand). Pilgrim's opponent fell deep into the tank.

"I know you're betting big because you've got a flush...," Pilgrim's opponent said.

True to his word, Pilgrim called the clock after about two minutes. His opponent mucked shortly after the tournament director came over and said, "[If] you had bet 6k I snap call."

Pilgrim nodded his head and scooped the pot. He is still hovering a bit below the starting stack with 27,000.
