He Brings Kings, But Gavin Havin' Aces

Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith

Gavin Smith raised from middle position, then an opponent reraised to 2,000 from the cutoff seat. It folded to the big blind who four-bet to 3,800, then Smith reraise-shoved all in for 13,650 total. The cutoff tanked for some time before finally letting his hand go, then the big blind immediately called Smith's shove.

The player in the big blind showed {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}, but Smith had {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}, and after the community cards came {5-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Diamonds}, Smith had more than doubled up.

Sebok Eliminated

Joe Sebok
Joe Sebok

Andrew Lichtenberger opened to 700 in early position and was called by Matt Woodward in middle position. Sam Gregory was in the hijack and popped it to 3,000. Joe Sebok, from the cutoff, went all in for 16,550 and recieved folds from all except Gregory.

Sebok held {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs} and was racing with the {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} of Gregory. The board rolled out {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Sebok was sent to the rail.

Brown Takes One Down

We noticed Chad Brown scooping a sizable pot and another player standing up and wishing his tablemates good luck. When we walked over we saw that Brown had the a {10-}{7-} in front of him with a board that read {10-}{7-}{7-}{2-}{8-} for a flopped full house. Brown's opponent was already all in and had pocket kings in front of him for an overpair. Brown wins.

Brown is up to 50,000.

Flack Attack

Layne Flack opened for 700 from late position, then it folded to the big blind who reraised all in for 5,800 and Flack was there with the call.

Flack's opponent tabled {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} and needed help versus Flack's {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} to survive. But the board came {6-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Clubs}, causing yet another Day 1 casualty.

Tran Trending Up

When we got to the table, JC Tran was heads up with another opponent on a board that read {9-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Tran checked to his opponent, who fired out 3,250, which appeared to be about a pot sized bet. Tran made the call, and both players checked when the {8-Clubs} hit the river. Tran tabled {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}, and his opponent mucked, giving the pot over to Tran.

Tran has doubled his starting stack after that hand, as he now sits on 60,000.

Musumeci Eliminated

Amanda Musumeci made a deep run in last year's Main Event, finishing in 62nd place. She won't be repeating that run this year as she has been eliminated shortly after the dinner break.

A series of preflop raises between Musumeci and Sean Pramuk led to Musumeci all in for about 41,000 with {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}. Pramuk held {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and held up through the {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades} board.

Musumeci's WSOP isn't overwith yet, though, as she made the final of the WSOP National Championship which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday.

You Know Dasher and Danzer...

We caught up to find George Danzer heads up in a pot with the board reading {K-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}.

Danzer fired out 3,600 on the river and his opponent thought for about thirty seconds before tossing out a call. Danzer flipped up {J-Spades}{10-Spades} for a straight and his opponent tapped the table and flung his hand to the muck. Danzer is now sitting on a stack of about 65,000.

Wahlbeck Working

Ville Wahlbeck has been in the danger zone, chip-wise, since the return from dinner break. He's doing what he can, though, to try to turn things around.

Just now Wahlbeck raised to 800 from early position and got a caller from the hijack seat. The pair both checked the {4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop. The turn was the {K-Clubs}, Wahlbeck checked, and when his opponent bet 1,200, Wahlbeck let his hand go.

On the very next hand he was raising to 800 again, this time from under the gun, getting a caller in the small blind. The flop came {9-Hearts}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and when checked to Wahlbeck bet 1,050, getting a fold.
