Hellmuth Fires Second Bullet

Level 5 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

Phil Hellmuth has been on the shorter end of the chip stacks for most of this match and recently got it all in for his first bullet holding {A-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} against Thiago Nishijima's {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

"Put a jack out there," said Nishijima.

"You really think you deserve a jack after all of the cards you've been catching on me?" retorted Hellmuth.

The flop came down {Q-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Hellmuth retained his lead with his ace-high. The {4-Spades} on the turn changed nothing but the {J-Diamonds} on the river gave Nishijima the victory, forcing Hellmuth to dip into his second bullet.

"It was a race," said Nishijima after the hand.

"To YOU it's just a race," replied Hellmuth as he stacked the chips from his second bullet. The 13-time bracelet holder still has one lammer left behind.

Mirzikinian Moves On

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Keven Stammen was just eliminated by Warwick Mirzikinian, who busted in the semi-finals of the mixed max event last year. When we reached the table, the two were shaking hands and the board looked like this:

Mirzikinian: {a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}
Stammen: {a-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Board: {5-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

Mirzikinian will move on to the next round, and play the winner of the Justin Bonomo/Jason Mercier match.

Bonomo Doubles

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Justin Bonomo was all in preflop for 95,800 with {q-Clubs}{q-Spades} against the {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} of Jason Mercier. Bonomo held as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, doubling to 191,600.

Mercier still has a slight lead, and hasn't used any of his lammers.

The Rose is Blooming

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Minutes after crippling Joel Micka, Russell Rosenblum has advanced to the Round of 16, courtesy of his {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} holding up against Micka's {K-}{10-}.

The board ran out {7-}{9-}{9-}{4-}{5-}, and with ace-high, Rosenblum took the last of Micka's chips.

Stammen Doubles

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Keven Stammen was all in for his last 32,700 holding {A-Hearts}{4-Spades} against Warwick Mirzikinian's {K-Spades}{10-Spades}.

The flop came {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Mirzikinian paired up his tens and took the lead. Stammen could still win with running cards, an ace, or a deuce to make a wheel. The {7-Hearts} on the turn didn't do it but the {2-Diamonds} on the river sure did, allowing Stammen to double with a winning straight.

Stammen was able to double to 66,000 in chips.

Craig Bergeron Moving On

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

Craig Bergeron just stood and shook hands with Micah Raskin, signalling the end of their heads-up contest.

The chips were stacked on Bergeron's side of the table, and after inquiring as to the details of the final hand, we found out that his {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs} caught up to Raskin's {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} on a {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop.

Radoja Roars On

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante

We missed the details of the final hand but can report that Mark Radoja was able to best Ankush Mandavia and move on to the round of 16. Radoja will play Alexander Venovski in the next round.

Rosenblum Close to the Sweet Sixteen

Level 3 : 1,500/3,000, 0 ante

Russel Rosenblum raised to 6,000 with the button, Joel Micka three-bet to 12,500, and Rosenblum called. Micka led out for 10,200 on a flop of {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{j-Spades}, Rosenblum called, and both players checked when the {5-Hearts} turned. The {10-Hearts} completed the board, the two checked again, and Rosenblum showed {k-Spades}{7-Spades} for a pair of sevens. It was good.

The very next hand, Micka raised to 6,000 on the button, and Rosenblum called. Both players checked on the {10-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop, and Rosenblum led out for a bet when the {5-Spades} turned. Micka min-raised, and Rosenblum called.

The two checked when the {a-Diamonds} completed the board, and Rosenblum won with {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. Micka flashed a {k-}.

Micka is down to 70,000 chips and no lammers, while Rosenblum has the rest plus one lammer.

Melanie Weisner Whisks Past AP Phahurat

Level 4 : 2,000/4,000, 0 ante
Melanie Weisner
Melanie Weisner

We watched Melanie Weisner call AP Phahurat's all-in move with {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}, and she was off to the races against his {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}.

The dealer spread a flop of {5-Hearts}{k-Clubs}{8-Clubs} across the felt, and Weisner took the lead with her pair of kings. When no sixes arrived on the turn {10-Hearts}, or river {9-Diamonds}, the match was won, and Weisner's ticket to the Round of 16 was stamped.
