Two minutes and one hand into Level 1 was all it took for the first elimination to occur.
After a player in middle position raised to 150, Daniel Negreanu called on the button. Manuel Bevand three-bet to 525 from the small blind and only Negreanu called to see a flop of . Bevand continued for 800 before Negreanu popped it to 2,400. Bevand reraised to 5,200, leading to an all-in shove from Negreanu for 14,575. Bevand called.

It was middle set for Bevand against the flush draw and double-gutter straight draw for Negreanu. The turn and river were blanks for Negreanu, giving Bevand the early double up and Negreanu the rest of the night off.

Everybody knows that Allen Kessler hates giving away the slightest bit of value, and moments ago his seat was called over the loud speaker. Kessler was not wearing a WSOP.com patch, however, and missed out on $400 of equity. Antonio Esfandiari shouted this out for the entire field to hear, prompting many of the players to burst into laughter, and at the time Kessler was faced with a big river bet for half of his stack against Brandon Meyers.
The board was , and according to Jesse Martin, Kessler check-raised on the flop and then led out on the turn. On the river, he checked to Meyers who flipped out a single pink T5,000 chip. Kessler folded, leaving himself with 11,600 chips, while Meyers now has 35,000.
Nick Jivkov opened to 500 in middle position, and the action folded to Ryan Fair, who three-bet to 1,425 out of the big blind. Jivkov called.
The dealer fanned , and Fair led out for 1,675. Jivkov thought for a bit, then reached for chips, firing out, 4,175. This sent Fair deep into the tank.
"Where are you from?" he eventually asked Jivkov, who responded only with an icy stare.
Jivkov, a 2012 World Series of Poker bracelet winner, calls the Windy City of Chicago his home, and the Chicagoan snap-called when Fair moved all in for effectively 14,375.

Phil Galfond (Event 16) had a lot worse than Kings
There was an open to 800 from early position. Brock Parker and Hans Winzeler called in late position, and Phil Galfond tanked for a bit before three-betting to 2,600 out of the small blind. All three players called.
The flop fell , and Galfond led out for 3,200. The original raiser tanked for a considerable amount of time, then called. Parker and Winzeler both folded quickly.
The turn was the , the two players slowly knuckled, and the completed the board. The pair checked again.
"I have a weak ace," the player said, showing .
Galfond grimaced, then tossed his hand into the muck.
"Kings?" the player asked Galfond, who smiled.
"Little worse," he responded. There was a beat. "A lot worse, actually."
Brock Parker led out for 6,000 on a board of , and JJ Liu raised to 19,000, putting Parker all in. Parker tanked for nearly a minute, then committed the rest of his chips.

Parker needed a queen, jack, or a spade to survive, but the bricked on the river, and he was eliminated.
Ludovic Lacay, who was down to his last 3,000 chips not too long ago, was all-in and at risk for around 8,000 chips with . Stuart Rutter was racing against him with , and Lacay took the lead when the dealer fanned . Lacay remained ahead as the turn and river came , respectively. doubling to 17,300 chips.
In a battle of the blinds, Kyle Julius is all in for about 25,000 from the small blind after the turn of a board. Dimitar Danchev, with chips committed after the turn, tanks for about 90 seconds before he calls.
