Hua, McNeil Locked in Heads-Up Battle as Day 3 Ends

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante
Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil heads up
Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil heads up

Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil have played through the 10 levels that were scheduled for today, and they've elected to call it a night and return tomorrow to resume heads-up play. The two played heads-up for about an hour, beginning with Hua holding a chiplead of about five to two. However, it's now McNeil who has about three times as many chips as Hua after this hand.

We began Day 3 with 22 players surviving out of the 1,014-player field. Notable names Jennifer Harman, Maria Ho and Randy Ohel fell early on, and Dale Beaudoin, who began as the chipleader today, dropped out in 10th.

At the final table, bracelet winners John Monnette (7th) and Todd Brunson (3rd) were among those falling short of the bracelet, leading to the back-and-forth heads up battle between Hua and McNeil.

Both players will be seeking their first WSOP bracelet when play resumes tomorrow at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Amazon Room. For now, we'll leave you with Lynn Gilmartin who has the highlights from all corners of the 2013 World Series of Poker today:

McNeil: {q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Hua: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

Hua's full house was bigger, and he retook the lead.

Todd Brunson Eliminated in 3rd Place ($107,349)

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante
Todd Brunson - 3rd Place.
Todd Brunson - 3rd Place.

Todd Brunson raised from the small blind, and Can Kim Hua made the call. Brunson continuation-bet the {10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop, and Kim came along. The turn brought a {q-Spades}, and Brunson bet and was called again. The river was a {2-Spades}, and Brunson check-called.

Brunson: {a-}{q-}{x-}{x-}
Hua: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

Hua's nut flush took the pot, leaving Brunson with about one big bet.

A few hands later, Calen McNeil limped the small blind, and Todd Brunson raised from the big blind.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, and McNeil came out betting. Brunson raised his last 10,000, and McNeil called.

Brunson: {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
McNeil: {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

McNeil had an open-ended straight draw, but Brunson was ahead for both sides with a pair of threes for high and a better low draw. Unfortunately for him, McNeil binked his gin card, an {a-Clubs}, and the man known as "Big Wheel" McNeil among his friends had turned one. A {9-Clubs} completed the board, and Brunson was out.

Joe Ford Crippled, Eliminated in 4th Place ($77,917)

Level 28 : 25,000/50,000, 0 ante
Joe Ford- 4th Place
Joe Ford- 4th Place

Joe Ford started the action with a raise, and Calen McNeil called from the big blind. The flop came {q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{7-Spades}, and both players quickly checked. The turn brought the {5-Hearts}, and McNeil fired out. Ford made the call, and the same happened when the {a-Diamonds} hit the river. McNeil showed {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{9-Spades}{j-Hearts} for a straight, and despite the river bringing in a low, Ford didn't have one, as he mucked his hand.

Shortly after, Can Kim Hua and Ford got in a preflop raising war that saw all of Ford's chips get in the middle.

Hua: {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}
Ford: {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{3-Hearts}

The board ran down {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, and amazingly, Hua lowly pair of fives was good enough to score the knockout, and get us to three handed play.

Tony Ma Eliminated in 5th Place ($57,521)

Level 27 : 20,000/40,000, 0 ante
Tony Mah - 5th Place.
Tony Mah - 5th Place.

Tony Ma raised under the gun, and Todd Brunson pushed all in from the big blind. Ma called.

Ma: {a-}{a-Spades}{2-Spades}{k-Spades}
Brunson: {q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}{a-Hearts}

The flop came {8-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{5-Hearts}, so Brunson took the lead with two pair. The turn was a {k-Clubs} and the river a {q-Spades}, so Ma didn't improve his hand.

The next hand, Brunson, Ma and Joe Ford saw the flop for the minimum. Brunson led out on a {j-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop, and both players called. He fired again when the {5-Hearts} turned, and this time, only Ma called. The river came {3-Hearts}, and Brunson bet once more. Ma called, and Brunson showed him {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} for a full house. Ma showed a flush before mucking.

Ma then doubled up twice in the next few hands, but he lost all of it back when Ford took a pot from him with a river bluff, showing {a-}{8-}{6-}{4-} on a {9-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{2-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} board after Ma check-folded the river.

All in for his last big blind, Ma found himself against Brunson and Ford, who were checking down in the blinds. With the board reading {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} after all the cards were out, Ford showed a flush, while Brunson had a live five for low. Ma turned over {a-}{8-}{q-}{q-}, and his roller coaster ride was over.

Stephen Chidwick Eliminated in 6th Place ($43,120)

Level 27 : 20,000/40,000, 0 ante
Stephen Chidwick - 6th Place.
Stephen Chidwick - 6th Place.

Calen McNeil raised from middle position, and Todd Brunson called from the small blind. Stephen Chidwick three-bet from the big blind, and McNeil made it four-bets. Brunson called, and Chidwick five-bet for less than another full bet. Brunson and McNeil both called.

McNeil fired into the side pot after Brunson checked the {3-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} flop. Brunson called. The turn came {6-Hearts}, and Brunson checked once more. McNeil bet.

"How did I get into this mess?" Brunson wondered aloud. Finally, he folded.

McNeil: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Chidwick: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{x-}{x-}

McNeil's aces, flush draw and low draw had Chidwick almost dead. The river brought another 8, and McNeil scooped the massive pot, sending Chidwick to the rail.

John Monnette Eliminated in 7th Place ($32,798)

Level 26 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
John Monnette-7th Place
John Monnette-7th Place

John Monnette raised it up in middle position, and Calen McNeil three bet it from the big blind. Monnette called, and when the dealer put out a flop of {j-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}, the rest of Monnette's money got in the middle.

Monnette: {5-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}
McNeil: {a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}

Monette was looking for a low card to take half the pot, or a three to take the high, but the dealer put the {10-Hearts} on the turn. McNeil's rail yelled "pair the board," and the dealer obliged with the {10-Diamonds} on the river.

Monnette busts in 7th, while McNeil is back up to almost a million.

Won Goag Eliminated in 8th Place ($25,283)

Level 25 : 13,000/25,000, 0 ante
Won Goag
Won Goag

Action folded to Won Goag in late position, and he raised it up. Tony Ma put in a three bet, and everyone else folded. Goag committed the rest of his short stack, and Ma made the call.

Goag: {a-Hearts}{2-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Ma: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Goag's only hope was if low cards came out on the board, and both players smashed the flop of {a-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. Despite flopping two pair, Goag could only catch a jack to win the hand, and neither player could qualify for a low. The turn brought the {6-Diamonds}, and the river was the {2-Hearts}. Goag's smaller full house was no good, and he finished up in 8th place.

Dao Bac Crippled, Eliminated in 9th Place ($19,753)

Level 25 : 13,000/25,000, 0 ante
Dao Bac
Dao Bac

Calen McNeil raised it up from under the gun, and Dao Bac was the lone caller from the big blind. The flop came {j-Clubs}{7-Spades}{10-Diamonds}, and for the first time that we can remember all tournament, the betting was capped on the flop. Bac then proceeded to check call on the {q-Clubs} turn, and the {5-Clubs} river. McNeil revealed {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Spades}{10-Spades} for the nuts, and Back showed {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} before mucking.

That hand knocked Bac down to just 9,000, and two hands later, that went in the middle. John Monnette raised it up in late position, and Bac called off the rest of his stack in the small blind. McNeil also called from the big blind, and the flop came {3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. McNeil check called a bet from Monnette, but he folded when Monnette bet the {6-Spades} turn.

Monnette: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Bac: {a-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

Bac was looking for a low card to take half the pot, but the dealer put the {q-Clubs} on the river, ending Bac's tournament.

Level 24 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Dale Beaudoin - 10th Place.
Dale Beaudoin - 10th Place.

Stephen Chidwick raised from the hijack, and Dale Beaudoin tossed the last of his chips in from the big blind.

Beaudoin: {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}
Chidwick: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}

A flop of {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} didn't bring much hope for Beaudoin. The turn came {2-Clubs}, and Beaudoin was down to his last card. The {q-Spades} did nothing for him, and the chipleader coming into Day 3 was the unfortunate final table bubble victim.
