Day 3 Completed

Hua, McNeil Locked in Heads-Up Battle as Day 3 Ends

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante
Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil heads up
Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil heads up

Can Kim Hua and Calen McNeil have played through the 10 levels that were scheduled for today, and they've elected to call it a night and return tomorrow to resume heads-up play. The two played heads-up for about an hour, beginning with Hua holding a chiplead of about five to two. However, it's now McNeil who has about three times as many chips as Hua after this hand.

We began Day 3 with 22 players surviving out of the 1,014-player field. Notable names Jennifer Harman, Maria Ho and Randy Ohel fell early on, and Dale Beaudoin, who began as the chipleader today, dropped out in 10th.

At the final table, bracelet winners John Monnette (7th) and Todd Brunson (3rd) were among those falling short of the bracelet, leading to the back-and-forth heads up battle between Hua and McNeil.

Both players will be seeking their first WSOP bracelet when play resumes tomorrow at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Amazon Room. For now, we'll leave you with Lynn Gilmartin who has the highlights from all corners of the 2013 World Series of Poker today:

McNeil Takes Massive Lead as Night Ends

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

The players had the option to play one more level tonight, but Can Kim Hua has decided that he is done for the night. On the last hand, McNeil scored a huge scoop to take a big lead going into tomorrow. Hua raised it up on the button, and McNeil made the call. The flop came down {j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades}, and McNeil check called a bet. The same occured when the {j-Spades} hit the turn, and the river was the {4-Clubs}. This time, McNeil bet out, and Hua thought for about 30 seconds before raising. McNeil called quickly, and Hua simply said "you got it." McNeil showed {4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for trip fours, and McNeil and his rail erupted as McNeil took a monster lead going into tomorrow.

McNeil Scoops Monster to Take Lead

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Can Kim Hua called on the button, and Calen McNeil raised it up. Hua called, and the flop came down {q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. McNeil fired out, and Hua raised it up. McNeil called, and the turn brought the {3-Diamonds}. McNeil check called a bet from Hua, and when the {8-Spades} hit the river, McNeil fired out. Hua made the call, and McNeil showed {a-Hearts}{5-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for two pair and an ace-five low. Hua stood up in disbelief when he saw McNeil's hand, and he tossed his hand to the dealer.

After taking that pot, and another one after that, McNeil holds the chip lead with 2/3 of the chips in play.

Hua Scoops Another

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

After Calen McNeil fought his way back to virtually even, Can Kim Hua has found a couple monster hands to get back to a comfortable lead, for now. In the latest hand, Hua raised from the button, and McNeil made the call. The flop came {6-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}, and McNeil check called a bet from Hua. The same happened when the {6-Clubs} hit the turn, and when the {k-Clubs} hit the river, McNeil checked, and Hua bet out a third time. McNeil took his time with this decision, but eventually, he tossed in the call. Hua showed {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{a-Hearts} for a full house, and McNeil yelled half jokingly half seriously "God! You always have it don't you!"

After taking that pot, Hua is back up to 3.2 million, while McNeil is down to 1.3 million.

McNeil Making Sets

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

Can Kim Hua raised, and Calen McNeil called.

The flop came {5-Spades}{a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}, and McNeil check-called. He did the same on a {9-Clubs} turn before leading a {6-Clubs} river. Hua called. McNeil showed {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for a rivered boat, and Hua seemed disgusted.

A few hands later, Hua called from the button, then called a raise from McNeil.

McNeil continued the aggression on the {2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} flop, and Hua made the call. The turn came {q-Clubs}, and McNeil slowed down with a check. Hua bet, and McNeil called. The river was a {9-Diamonds}, and McNeil checked again. Hua bet, and this time McNeil raised it. Hua made the call. McNeil showed {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{a-Spades}{8-Spades} for another rivered set, and Hua again mucked in disgust.

Hua Scoops First Two Heads Up Pots

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante

We missed the preflop action, but the flop came out {8-Spades}{a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Can Kim Hua checked to Calen McNeil, who fired out a bet. Hua made the call, and both players checked the {10-Hearts} on the turn. The river brought the {8-Clubs}, and Hua fired out. McNeil made the call, and couldn't believe what he saw when Hua showed {4-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for trip eights and a low. McNeil showed {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for top two pair that was no good.

On the next hand, Hua limped in, and McNeil raised it up. Hua called, and the flop came down {10-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Hearts}. McNeil fired out, and Hua called. The same thing happened on the {7-Hearts} turn, and when the {6-Spades} hit hte river, McNeil checked. Hua took the opportunity to fire out a bet, and McNeil called. Hua showed {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for a straight and eight-four low, and once again, McNeil mucked his hand in disbelief.

Hua now has a commanding chip lead, with over 80% of the chips in play.

Todd Brunson Eliminated in 3rd Place ($107,349)

Level 30 : 40,000/80,000, 0 ante
Todd Brunson - 3rd Place.
Todd Brunson - 3rd Place.

Todd Brunson raised from the small blind, and Can Kim Hua made the call. Brunson continuation-bet the {10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop, and Kim came along. The turn brought a {q-Spades}, and Brunson bet and was called again. The river was a {2-Spades}, and Brunson check-called.

Brunson: {a-}{q-}{x-}{x-}
Hua: {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

Hua's nut flush took the pot, leaving Brunson with about one big bet.

A few hands later, Calen McNeil limped the small blind, and Todd Brunson raised from the big blind.

The flop came {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}, and McNeil came out betting. Brunson raised his last 10,000, and McNeil called.

Brunson: {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
McNeil: {4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

McNeil had an open-ended straight draw, but Brunson was ahead for both sides with a pair of threes for high and a better low draw. Unfortunately for him, McNeil binked his gin card, an {a-Clubs}, and the man known as "Big Wheel" McNeil among his friends had turned one. A {9-Clubs} completed the board, and Brunson was out.
