We caught a hand where Matt Berkey put the pressure on Erik Seidel, making it 2,300 to-go from the cutoff.
Seidel thought a minute and called on the button. The flop came and Berkey bet once again. Seidel called the 3,500 bet, and the turn came
Berkey stayed steady as he kept firing out, this time 8,500, and Seidel made the call. They both checked when the came on the river, and Berkey showed for a pair of aces. Seidel quietly mucked.
We arrived at the table just in time to find Giacomo Fundaro all in and at risk before the flop against Mike Linster. Fundaro held but was disappointed to find Linster turn over two ladies - - which had him in pretty bad shape.
The flop came down and Linster's queens stayed out in the lead. The on the turn changed nothing as Fundaro stood up out of his seat, poised to make a quick exit away from the table. The dealer rapped the felt and produced the final card- the , and Fundaro immediately slunk right back into his chair. A visibly upset Linster was forced to ship 32,000 across to the other side of the table and now is just sitting on about 23,000 himself.
Thanks for joining us on our ongoing coverage of the 2013 World Series of Poker. Today marks Day 2 for Event #21: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em (Six Handed). A grand total of 807 players entered this event yesterday and by the end of 10 levels only 129 remained. By the end of the evening, Jesse Wilke led the field with Victor Ramdin hot on his heels for the chip lead.
Many players flock to the opportunity to play short-handed poker, as there are only a few chances to do so at the WSOP every year. As expected, this $3,000 buy-in event drew in a field that was stacked to the brim with professional players and notable names. The likes of Jason Mercier, Michael Mizrachi, Dutch Boyd, Vanessa Rousso, Paul Vople, Vanessa Rousso, Eli Elezra, and Mickey Petersen were just a small sample size of the notable names to hit the felt only to find all of their chips gone by the start of play.
While those players failed, others thrived on the felt and will be returning close to a WSOP cash. Some of the notable stacks heading into this second day of play include Ryan Olisar (154,500), Jonathan Roy (132,700), Scott Seiver (132,000), Matt Berkey (97,300), Matt Stout (92,300), Erik Seidel (81,300), Antonio Esfandiari (80,600), Shane Schleger (75,600), Amanda Musumeci (56,200), and a ton of other recognizable names.
