Chiu Trips Up on Akkari

Level 15 : 700/2,500, 500 ante

David Chiu completed to 2,500 only to have Andre Akkari bump it to 5,000. Chiu made the call and proceeded to bet out on every street with Akkari making the call each time.

Chiu: {X-}{X-} / {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} / {X-}
Akkari: {X-}{X-} / {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} / {X-}

Chiu tabled his {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for trips and Akkari mucked leaving himself just 33,000 as Chiu began closing in on the 200,000-chip mark.

Ellis Loses One, Ellis Wins One

Level 15 : 700/2,500, 500 ante
Freddie Ellis - Winner of the 2009 Stud Hi World Championship
Freddie Ellis - Winner of the 2009 Stud Hi World Championship

Jesse Martin: {x-}{x-} / {9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades} / {x-}
Freddie Ellis: {x-}{x-} / {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} / {x-}

Martin bet out on fourth and fifth street, Ellis called both bets, and when the 2009 Stud World Champion made a better board on sixth, he opted to check. Martin fired out a bet, and Ellis called. Both players checked on seventh.

"Jacks," Ellis announced, prompting Martin to frown. "Er, I mean eights."

Ellis showed {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a pair of eights, and Martin gave a chuckle before revealing the {9-Clubs} from his downcards for a winning pair of nines.

A few hands later, Ellis and Scott Seiver tangled.

Seiver: {x-}{x-} / {4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} / {x-}
Ellis: {x-}{x-} / {5-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds} / {x-}

Seiver check-called a bet on sixth, then check-raised on seventh. Ellis called.

"Trips," Seiver said, showing {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{x-}.

"Trips," Ellis echoed, tabling {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{x-}.

The two shared a laugh, and Ellis told Seiver that he thought he was beat when he said he had trips.

"When I said I had trips I thought I had you beat too," Seiver said, grinning.

Moskowitz Flushed Out

Level 15 : 700/2,500, 500 ante
David Moskowitz
David Moskowitz

David Moskowitz found himself all in on fifth street against Lavonne Joyce.

Moskowitz: {A-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} / {9-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Joyce: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} / {7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

With Joyce already four to a flush, she caught the {K-Hearts} and {8-Diamonds} to improve to a bigger flush while Moskowitz was unable to improve to a full house or quads when he caught the {10-Spades} on sixth and a blank on seventh.

Richardson Run Over by Ellis

Level 15 : 700/2,500, 500 ante

John Richardson saw the last of his chips enter the pot against two players; one of which was Freddie Ellis.

Ellis pushed the third player out on sixth and tabled his {Q-Diamonds}{9-Spades} / {9-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a full house. Unfortunately for Richardson all he had was a flush draw and some rags and was forced to make an exit to the rail as Ellis had him drawing dead.

Spades for Seiver

Level 16 : 1,000/3,000, 700 ante

Jesse Martin: {x-}{x-} / {k-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{4-Hearts} / {x-}
Rudolf Zintel: {x-}{x-} / {2-Hearts} (FOLD)
Scott Seiver: {x-}{x-} / {j-Spades}{6-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Hearts} / {x-}

Before the level changed, Zintel brought it in, Seiver completed, and only Martin called. Both players checked on fourth street, and Martin bet out on fifth. Seiver raised, and Martin called. Martin check-called bets on sixth and seventh, then mucked when Seiver announced he had a flush.

Seiver showed {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades} for an ace-high flush, and raked in another pot.

Butler Doubles then Busts

Level 16 : 1,000/3,000, 700 ante
Ashly Butler
Ashly Butler

Ashly Butler found a much needed double to 18,000 at the hands of Helmut Koch.

Butler's board ran out {3-Hearts}{4-Spades} / {2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} / {2-Diamonds} for two pair to better Koch's {A-Hearts}{7-Spades} / {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} / {A-Spades}.

However a few hands later Butler would complete after the action folded round to him and David Chiu would defend his bring in. Butler bet fourth and fifth with Chiu raising to 12,000 on fifth only to have Butler move all in for 12,700 total. Chiu called and both player's boards looked as follows.

Butler: {8-Spades}{2-Clubs} / {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Chiu: {A-Spades}{J-Hearts} / {2-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

Butler caught the {7-Spades} on sixth as Chiu spiked the {5-Spades} before the {8-Hearts} completed his board on seventh. Unfortunately for Butler he was unable to improve and was forced to the rail in 19th place as Chiu moved to 235,000 in chips.

Griffin Busts

Ashton Griffin - Eliminated
Ashton Griffin - Eliminated

Jesse Martin: {x-}{x-} / {7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} / {x-}
Ashton Griffin: {x-}{x-} / {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} / {x-}

Griffin fired out a bet on sixth street, and Martin made the call. Griffin bet one last time on seventh, Martin called, and Griffin showed {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for a pair of fives and bricked straight and flush draws. Martin tabled {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for eights and sevens, winning the pot and leaving Griffin with just 18,000 chips

A few hands later, he was eliminated by Scott Seiver.

Griffin: {x-}{x-} / {9-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} / {x-}
Seiver: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} / {x-}

Griffin bet out on fourth and fifth, then went all in for 600 on sixth. Seiver called.

Griffin: {j-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Seiver: {4-Hearts}{3-Hearts}

Seiver held a massive draw, and made a straight when he received the {2-Clubs} as his down card. Griffin didn't improve to a full house with the {k-Clubs}, and was eliminated.

A Costly Mistake and a Bad Beat for Ashton

Level 16 : 1,000/3,000, 700 ante
Matthew Ashton
Matthew Ashton

Eric Brooks: {x-}{x-} / {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Matthew Ashton: {x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

Ashton brought it in, Brooks completed, Ashton raised, and Brooks re-raised. Ashton called. When Brooks paired his king on fourth, he bet double the limit (6,000). Ashton, thinking it was a single bet, tossed out half of a call (3,000). Ashton then realized his mistake, and opted to forfeit the chips, folding his hand.

"I thought it was a queen," he admitted after the hand.

A few hands later, he and Andre Akkari capped the action preflop, then Akkari got his last 1,200 in on fourth street.

Akkari: ({k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}) / {8-Diamonds}{4-Spades}
Ashton: ({j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}) / {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}

Akkari made better trips when fifth street gave him the {8-Spades}, but Ashton improved to a full house with the {2-Diamonds}. Not to be outdone, Akkari made a better full house on sixth with the {k-Clubs}, and Ashton was unable to make quads on sixth or seventh.

Akkari doubled.

Akkari Crippled

Level 16 : 1,000/3,000, 700 ante

Andre Akkari raised over a completion and Matthew Ashton upped it to 9,000. Akkari made the call before calling a bet on fourth only to raise on fifth. Ashton called and then called on sixth before both players checked.

Akkari: {X-}{X-} / {J-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades} / {X-}
Ashton: {X-}{X-} / {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades} / {X-}

Akkari tabled his {J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} for two pair, but it would be Ashton's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{8-Spades} for a better two pair that would see him collect the pot to move to 90,000 while leaving Akkari crippled on just 5,000.

For the Brazilian however, he would double through next hand when his split kings held up against Ashton's starting {5-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} / {Q-Clubs}.
