Ivan Demidov is Riding the Roller Coaster Here on Day 2
Ivan Demidov is Riding the Roller Coaster Here on Day 2

Two consecutive hands saw Ivan Demidov's stack shattered and rebuilt in short order.

First, Demidov opened for 7,000 and then called Stephen Chidwick's three-bet of 17,500 to take a flop of {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Both players checked the baby card board, but when the {a-Hearts} turned, Demidov check-called a bet of 25,000. The {q-Spades} then completed the board on the river, and Demidov checked for a third time.

When Chidwick fired a bet of 75,000 forward, the Russian pro flatted and turned over his {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} for top two pair. Unfortunately for Demidov, Chidwick held the {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for trips on the flop, and he strung Demidov along the whole way.

On the very next deal, however, the Demidov managed to get his last 157,000 into the middle holding {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Day 1 chip leader Nick Schwarmann looked him up with {6-Spades}{6-Hearts}. When the board ran out a clean {9-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} for Demidov, the Russian's snowmen had survived, giving him a crucial double to more than rebound from his previous loss.
