Vengrin Settles for Chop

Level 2 : 75/150, 25 ante

Player 1 brought in as player 2 completed. A call was followed by a raise, as Matt Vengrin made the call. Player 1 was the only one to fold as four saw fifth street. Player 4 bet, as we lost one heading into sixth. Player 4 check raised the bet from Vengrin, before leading out on seventh. Only Vengrin called, as both players tabled their down cards.

Player 1: {x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds} (folded on third)
Player 2: {x-}{x-} / {K-Spades}{10-Hearts} (folded on fourth)
Player 3: {x-}{x-} / {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{J-Spades} / {x-}
Player 4: {a-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} / {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Vengrin: {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} / {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{K-Hearts}

Vengrin would settle for half the pot, winning the low.

Previous Champion Exits

Level 2 : 75/150, 25 ante

After over-hearing a player state that the player on his left was a previous champion of this very event - along with many others playing today - we decided to venture over to his table to find out who he was and how he was going so far today.

Our PokerNews reporter had bad timing.

Finding the said champion betting every street until he was all in for his last 50 on seventh, the champion had his board spread {J-Spades}{10-Diamonds} / {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{8-Hearts}{7-Hearts} / {4-Clubs}.

However it would be his opponent's {5-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} / {3-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Spades} / {3-Diamonds} that would see him eliminate the previous champion before we even had a chance to grab his story!

Shulman takes it Down on Fifth

Level 2 : 75/150, 25 ante

Barry Shulman: {x-}{x-} / {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Frankie O’Dell: {x-}{x-} / {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Dan Kelly: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{q-Spades} (folded fourth)

Barry Shulman, the winner of this event back in 2001, completed and received calls from Frankie O’Dell and the in-form Dan Kelly.

Kelly checked fourth, O’Dell checked behind and Shulman bet. Only O’Dell called, so it was heads up to fifth street. Shulman bet and O’Dell mucked.

Shulman seemed disappointed by O’Dell’s fold and he flung his cards into the muck.

Finne Wins Without Showdown

Level 2 : 75/150, 25 ante

Tim Finne: {x-}{x-} / {a-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} / {x-}
Seat 9: {x-}{x-} / {3-Hearts}{a-Spades}{j-Spades}{2-Clubs} / {x-}
Frankie O’Dell: {x-}{x-} / {7-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} (folded fifth)

Seat 9 brought in with the {3-Hearts} on show, Frankie O’Dell completed, Tim Finne called and Seat 9 tossed in the extra chips to call.

Finne bet fourth and only the player in Seat 9 called. Fifth street was checked to Finne, Finne bet and Seat 9 called. Both players checked on sixth with Finne leading on seventh. Seat 9 checked his hole cards several times before concluding he was beaten and he mucked.

Three Eights for O'Dell

Level 2 : 75/150, 25 ante
Frankie O'Dell (from Event 15)
Frankie O'Dell (from Event 15)

Barry Shulman completed and Frankie O'Dell two-bet. Dan Kelly cold-called while Shulman came along also before O'Dell bet out on fourth. Kelly raised, Shulman called and O'Dell made it three bets to go with both players calling.

With Kelly improving on fifth, he lead out as Shulman folded before O'Dell raised. Kelly called, and then called a bet on sixth before both players checked seventh.

Shulman {X-}{X-} / {3-Spades}{Q-Spades}{10-Clubs} (folded on fifth)
O'Dell: {X-}{X-} / {A-Clubs}{8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{J-Spades} / {X-}
Kelly: {X-}{X-} / {9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} / {X-}

"Three eights!" announced O'Dell as he flipped over his {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} / {8-Hearts} while Kelly sighed and tossed his cards to the muck.

Micon Loses Some Early Ground

Level 1 : 50/100, 75 ante

Seat 3: {x-}{x-} / {4-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{6-Spades}{7-Spades} / {x-}
Bryan Micon: {x-}{x-} / {6-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} / {x-}

The player in Seat 6 brought in with the {2-Hearts} showing and Bryan Micon completed. Seat 3 was the only player to call and it was heads-up to fourth street.

Micon led and was called. Micon then reverted to check-calling on fifth and sixth, before leading on seventh. Seat 3 then raised and Micon called.

We didn’t get to see Micon’s hole cards as he mucked when he was shown {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}/{5-Hearts} for a seven-high straight.
