After over-hearing a player state that the player on his left was a previous champion of this very event - along with many others playing today - we decided to venture over to his table to find out who he was and how he was going so far today.
Our PokerNews reporter had bad timing.
Finding the said champion betting every street until he was all in for his last 50 on seventh, the champion had his board spread / / .
However it would be his opponent's / / that would see him eliminate the previous champion before we even had a chance to grab his story!
Barry Shulman: /
Frankie O’Dell: /
Dan Kelly: / (folded fourth)
Barry Shulman, the winner of this event back in 2001, completed and received calls from Frankie O’Dell and the in-form Dan Kelly.
Kelly checked fourth, O’Dell checked behind and Shulman bet. Only O’Dell called, so it was heads up to fifth street. Shulman bet and O’Dell mucked.
Shulman seemed disappointed by O’Dell’s fold and he flung his cards into the muck.
Tim Finne: / /
Seat 9: / /
Frankie O’Dell: / (folded fifth)
Seat 9 brought in with the on show, Frankie O’Dell completed, Tim Finne called and Seat 9 tossed in the extra chips to call.
Finne bet fourth and only the player in Seat 9 called. Fifth street was checked to Finne, Finne bet and Seat 9 called. Both players checked on sixth with Finne leading on seventh. Seat 9 checked his hole cards several times before concluding he was beaten and he mucked.
