Galfond Gets a Few

Level 8 : 300/600, 0 ante
Phil Galfond
Phil Galfond

Following a {2-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop, it checked to Phil Galfond who bet 1,500 from the cutoff, Travis Lutes called from the button, and the big blind folded. The turn brought the {8-Diamonds} and another bet from Galfond, this time for 3,400, and Lutes called again.

The river was the {4-Diamonds}. Galfond carved out chips and pushed forward 7,600 of them, and after contemplating for a while Lutes called one last time. Galfond turned over {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for trip deuces, and Lutes mucked.

Rast Doubles Up

Level 7 : 200/500, 0 ante

We arrived at the table, just in time to hear the small blind ask Brian Rast how much he had behind.

“About 12,000,” was the response from Rast, who was waiting for his opponent to act on a board of {5-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{8-Hearts}.

The small blind then slid out enough chips to cover Rast, who then made the call, as both players tabled their cards.

Rast: {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Rast had taken the lead on the flop with a higher pair, and improved to a flush, as the board ran out the {7-Diamonds} and {J-Clubs} to see him move back up to 35,000 in chips.

Hachem Taking it Easy

Level 7 : 200/500, 0 ante

We arrived at the table to see the player in the hijack open to 1,150, and get three callers, one of which was Joe Hachem in the small blind. The flop came {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}, and action checked around to the original better, who threw out a continuation bet of 2,300. Only Hachem called, as both saw the turn come the {6-Diamonds}. A few checks followed, as the {J-Clubs} was produced on the river. Hachem then reached for chips, and threw out 2,700, which proved enough about a minute later, when his opponents cards went into the muck.

Fonseca Has It

Level 7 : 200/500, 0 ante

We were describing Alberto Fonseca bluffing Sammy Farha earlier... and noting afterwards that he never bluffed.

We just happened on another river bet by Fonseca. He'd pushed a nearly pot-sized bet of 15,000 before him with the board showing {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}, and Daniel Alaei tanked for a while before calling.

"I have the nuts," said Fonseca, tabling {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, and Alaei shook his head and mucked.

Selbst Dodges River

Level 7 : 200/500, 0 ante

With a board showing {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, the player in the hijack bet out, before Vanessa Selbst moved all infor her last 11,200 in chips. She was called, as both players tabled their cards.

Selbst: {6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{8-Clubs}
Opponent: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

“Oh, that’s a terrible turn card,” said Selbst, as the dealer then rolled over the river card. “But that’s a good river,” she added, as worries of her opponent having so many outs heading to the last card were ended, as she filled up with the {2-Hearts} completing the board.
