1,072 players walked through the doors of the Rio yesterday to play in Event #44 $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em. 229 of them remain, but only half of those, 117 to be exact, will make the money. Two players separated themselves from the pack yesterday: Zohair Karim (128,700), and none other then Dan "djk123" Kelly (113,700), who is looking for his ninth cash of the summer, continuing one of the sickest heaters we have seen in recent memory.
These two will be joined by a plethora of other notables, including Jonathan Duhamel (65,700), Jason Mercier (65,100), Joe Cada (58,900), Scott Clements (48,000), and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi (34,700), amongst many others.

Ryan D'Angelo came into today with a short stack of 19,500, and it didn't take him long to get it in the middle. We caught up with the action on the flop, which read . D'Angelo checked to his lone opponent Darrryl Ronconi, who bet out 4,000. D'Angelo then check raised all in for his last 12,100 total, and Ronconi made the call after half a minute of thinking.

D'Angelo's middle pair was in trouble, and he was looking to catch another eight or a six to secure the double up. It never came though, as the board ran down and . D'Angelo wished everyone luck, grabbed his bag, and headed for the exits.

We caught up with the action in a three way pot between Joe Kuether, Maria Ho, and James Thompson on the flop, which had come down . Ho checked to Thompson, who bet out 3,400. Kuether made the call, and Ho tossed her cards in. The turn brought the , and this time, Thompson checked to Kuether, who took the opportunity to fired out 5,200. This got a fold from Thompson, and Kuether padded his stack a bit to start the day.

We were only able to get the hands and board after the fact, but we know that David Vamplew has scored an early double up when his held against Sandeep Pulusani's as the board ran down . After winning that pot, Vamplew is now up to 44,000.

A player raised to 2,200 from the hijack and Michael Mizrachi called from the small blind. Mizrachi checked the flop.
His opponent bet 2,100 and Mizrachi made it 4,500 to go and the player called.
Mizrachi check-called a 3,500 bet from his opponent on the turn and both players check the river.
Mizrachi announced "I've got a pair" but did not show his cards. His opponent said "I do, too" and he turned over . Mizrachi quickly mucked his hand.
There was 28000 in the pot and three players when we saw the flop on the board and the turn being dealt.

We walked up to the table and caught the action on the turn, with the board showing . Stephen Chidwick checked to Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi, who fired out 7,300. Chidwick decided to put out a check raise to 19,500, and it was back on Mizrachi. He thought for about a minute, got the official count on the bet, then stuck in the call.
The river was the , and Chidwick checked again. This time. Mizrachi checked behind, and Chidwick rolled over for a flopped set. Mizrachi kicked his hand in, and after losing that pot, he's down to 26,500. Chidwick on the other hand, is having a good day so far, as he is now up to 83,000.
