The game's gabbiest pros have taken to Twitter to discuss their participation in today's Ante-Only tournament. Here is a small sampling of the tweets we've seen so far.
Thanks to the voice of Shane Schleger and the rest of the players playing this event, all tables will now be nine-handed. The tournament started out with ten-handed tables but with all the room we have with less than 600 signed up as of now, the tournament supervisors have decided to give the players what they want. That is more leg room and nine-handed tables. There are still a few tables in Bronze that are ten-handed, but as soon as they lose a player they will go down to nine-handed.
With a total of 99 World Series of Poker cashes to his credit, Phil Hellmuth is poised to make history the next time he makes the money. With a 100th cash here on poker's grand stage, Hellmuth can cement another aspect of his already indomitable legacy.
The "Poker Brat" has been amped up all week in anticipation of securing this historic score, and according to his Twitter account, Hellmuth will try make history here at the ante-only tournament.
Hellmuth has made his customary late arrival, and a quick check of his stack showed that history may have to wait for another day. With his 4,500 starting stack already halved just a few hands into the tournament, Hellmuth has already been seen flinging his cards into the muck with his signature blend of exasperation.
David Williams was seen sending a portion of his stack across the table, and while we missed his hand, it was evident that a bad beat had just occurred.
Williams' opponent had the tabled, with a board of telling the tale. The all-player had risked his last 5,900 at some point in the hand, and when the river spiked his set, he earned a doublet through one of poker's brightest stars.
***Update*** With the assistance of Twitter, we've discovered that Williams was holding the when the rivered set sabotaged his stack. We'll let Williams recap the action though.
