Sekularac vs. Stern

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Action folded to Dani Stern in the small blind and he raised to 30,000. Ognjen Sekularac defended from the big and it was heads-up action to the flop, which came down {9-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Stern led out for 30,000, Sekularac called and then both players checked the {8-Clubs} turn.

When the {6-Diamonds} completed the board on the river, Stern led out for 95,000 and Sekularac made a quick call. Stern tabled the {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and it was good as Sekularac simply mucked.

Five-Bet Shove from Shorr

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Marvin Rettenmaier opened to 23,000 in the cutoff, Shannon Shorr three-bet to 60,000 in the big blind, and Rettenmaier four-bet to 136,000. After asking the dealer to cut down the bet, Shorr announced that he was all in, betting effectively 580,000.

Rettenmaier snap-folded, and has since lost another pot to dip to 360,000 chips.

Ten-Minute Break

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Players are now on a ten-minute break. When they return Level 18 will commence and the bubble will continue. The plan is to play until the bubble bursts no matter how long that may take. With that said, once it does burst we will be done for the night.

Galfond Takes One from Benyamine and Full Counts

Level 17 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Before the break began, Phil Galfond, David Benyamine, and Keith Lehr all took a flop of {9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}. The trio checked. The turn was the {4-Diamonds}, Galfond led out for 52,000, and only Benyamine called.

The river was the {9-Spades}, Galfond fired out another 105,000, and Benyamine called. Galfond tabled {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for a turned flush, winning the pot.

Here are full counts. As you can see, Max Lehmanski, Stephen Chidwick, and Kevin Eyster are doing their best to abuse the bubble.

Big Bubble Doubles

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Steve Sung - Saved by a diamond on the river
Steve Sung - Saved by a diamond on the river

We just had two all-in situations and it appeared the bubble was primed to burst.

In the first, Dani Stern raised to 25,000 and then called when Ognjen Sekularac moved all in for 114,000 from the small blind. Action was halted to wait for action to complete at the other tables. It was at one of these tables that Steve Sung and Igor Kurganov battled, which you can read about below.

Sekularac: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Stern: {a-Clubs}{5-Hearts}

Sekularac was well out in front and doubled after the board ran out {q-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}.

At the other table, Kurganov raised to 25,000 from the cutoff only to have Sung three-bet to 80,000 from the button. Kurganov respond with a four-bet to 160,000 and then snap-called when Sung moved all in.

Sung: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}
Kurganov: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

Sung was in the worst possible spot and looked as if he'd become the bubble boy. The {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop made that all the more likely, but much to the surprise of the railbirds still in attendance, the {3-Diamonds} turned to give Kurganov a flush draw. Much to Kurganov's dismay, as well as the other players hoping to make the money, the {8-Diamonds} spiked on the river to save Sung.

The Short Stack's Turn to Double

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Dani Stern opened for 24,000 under the gun and cleared the field to a short-stacked Brandon Meyers in the big blind. Meyers, the one-time chip leader, moved all in for 119,000 and Stern called.

Stern: {k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Meyers: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}

Meyers got it in good but the {7-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop paired Stern and gave him the lead. The {4-Diamonds} turn meant just one card stood in the way of the bubble bursting, and that's just what it did as the {A-Hearts} peeled off to give Meyers a winning pair of aces.

"I folded an ace," Ognjen Sekularac said as the rest of the players bemoaned the fact that the bubble continued.

Massive Hand for Ansky

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Dani Stern
Dani Stern

Dani Stern and Kevin Eyster have been battling back and forth on the bubble at the only four-handed table in the tournament. Even with Ognjen Sekularac and Brandon Meyers nursing short stacks at their table, these two are unafraid and are willing to play big pots.

In fact, the two just played a massive, 1.4 million-chip pot that went Stern's way. We caught the hand on the turn of an {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} board. Eyster had checked, Stern fired out 58,000, and Eyster check-raised to 152,000. Stern called.

The river was the {k-Diamonds}, and Eyster grabbed a yellow T1,000 chip and a pink T5,000 chip, placed them on top of green T25,000 chips and slid forward 506,000.

"How much?" Stern sighed, shifting in his seat.

The dealer confirmed the amount, and after less than a minute Stern called. Eyster instantly flicked his cards into the muck, and Stern showed {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts} for a pair of aces.

Brandon Meyers Bubbles Event #52

Level 18 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Brandon Meyers bubbles
Brandon Meyers bubbles

After nearly two and a half hours, we are finally in the money here in Event #52.

Brandon Meyers was first to act, and moved all in for 188,000. Dani Stern folded on the button, and Ognjen Sekularac asked for a count in the small blind. The dealer obliged, and then Sekularac re-shoved, having Meyers covered by a few dozen thousand. Kevin Eyster quickly surrendered his big blind.

One more table still had a hand in progress, but as soon as Fabian Quoss folded his hand, Meyers and Sekularac tabled theirs.

Meyers: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Sekularac: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

With the stacks nearly even, it was essentially a $53,781 race. Meyers didn't make a pair as the flop fell {q-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}, but he did pick up a gut-shot straight draw and a backdoor flush draw. Sekularac held two of his tens, but even if a ten turned, the Serbian would still have a redraw to a full house.

The {8-Spades} on the turn removed Meyers' hopes of making a flush, and left him with eight outs to survive. Unfortunately for him, the {8-Clubs} completed the board, and he was eliminated on an excruciatingly long bubble.

The remaining 18 players are now bagging and tagging. We will have full counts, the seat draw, and a recap for you shortly.
