Congratulations to Dana Castaneda, Winner of Event #54: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em ($454,207)

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

It was a short day for the remaining players in Event #54. Players dropped off the map quick in the early levels after a few moments of stagnant action at the start of the day. At the end of it all, Dana Castaneda was crowned the champion, becoming the first female open event winner other than Vanessa Selbst since 2007. According to Castaneda, the only reason she even played the event was because of her 94th place finish and cash in Event #51: $10,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold'em Championship.

Action began the day with 14 players left, and very quickly there were only nine left. First to fall was Orjan Skommo who shoved his {9-Spades}{6-Spades} into Joseph Wertz's {A-}{Q-}. Skommo didn't catch up and he was the first casualty of the day. Next to go was Thomas Hall who started near the top of the chip counts. Hall lost several races in a row and ended up getting his money all in against Michael Zucchet. Hall flopped a set but a runner-runner straight sent him packing in thirteenth place. Next to go were Rupesh Pattni and Molissa Farber who both began the day short stacked. That brought players to the unofficial ten handed final table.

It was Nicco Maag who fell just short of the final table when his {a-}{3-} couldn't outrun pocket fours. This brought the players to the final table where the first to fall was Kenneth Gregersen. Gregersen got his money all in for a race with Barry Hutter. Hutter hit the river hard to send Gregsen home with ninth place pay. Then, in a stunning turn of events Jason Bigelow eliminated both Joseph Wertz and Jacob Bazeley. Bigelow woke up with aces over a shove, and a reshove and they held through the runout to take him into the chip lead while scoring a double knockout.

Going out in sixth was Barry Hutter, who began the day, and the final table as the chip leader. Hutter had lost a lot of traction and doubled up several players including Dana Castaneda, the eventual winner. In his final hand, Castaneda made a tough call against Hutter with a pair of threes on a {10-}{4-}{4-} board. Hutter held {A-}{K-} for an airball and Castaneda notched the knock out. She also picked up the chip lead which she would never relinquish. Philippe Clerc was eliminated in fifth place when he moved in with a straight draw against Michael Zucchet's aces. Clerc didn't catch up and that was the end of his tournament.

The final four players were very close to evenly stacked when four handed play began, but one by one they dropped until only one was left. First to go was Michael Zucchet who shoved all in with a semibluff, and couldn't catch up to Castaneda's made hand. Going home in third was Matthias Bednarek. Bednarek got it all in preflop with {K-}{J-} but it was no match for Castaneda's {K-}{Q-}. Castaneda flopped a {Q-} and it was off to heads-up play.

Jason Bigelow looked as if he might turn the tide of the match in his favor after stringing together several pots in a row, but in the end, he got his money in with a flush draw against Castaneda's two pair. The flush never came and Bigelow was eliminated. Castaneda was able to lock up the victory and the bracelet with that hand. We are sure to see Castaneda again soon as she informed PokerNews.com reporters yesterday that she would be using her winnings to play in Event #62: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event.

That does it for us at PokerNews.com. Thanks for staying with us through it all and make sure you stay tuned for updates through the rest of the 2013 World Series of Poker.

Matthias Bednarek Eliminated in Third Place ($198,883)

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Matthias Bednarek
Matthias Bednarek

Hand #92: Jason Bigelow raised to 100,000 under the gun, and Dana Castaneda called from the big blind. The flop came {q-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{6-Hearts}. Castaneda checked, and Bigelow bet out. Castaneda folded, and Bigelow took the pot.

Hand #93: Matthias Bednarek raised to 100,000, and both other players called. The flop came {10-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{2-Hearts}. Castaneda checked, and Jason Bigelow bet 150,000. Bednarek called, and Castaneda raised all in. Bigelow and Bednarek both folded, and Castaneda won the hand. She showed the {2-Clubs} as the dealer was pushing her the pot.

Hand #94: Dana Castaneda limped from the button, Bigelow folded from the small blind, and Matthias Bednarek raised all in from the big blind. Castaneda folded, and Bednarek took the pot.

Hand #95: Mattias Bednarek limped from the small blind, and Dana Castaneda raised to 200,0000 from the big blind. Bednarek then raised all in, and Castaneda called.

Castaneda: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}
Bednarek: {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}

Castaneda was in a dominating position, which got even better when the flop came {q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. The {6-Hearts} on the turn sealed Bednarek’s fate, and the river was as meaningless {9-Hearts}.

Bednarek was eliminated in third place, earning a $198,883 payday.

Michael Zucchet Eliminated in 4th Place ($143,642)

Level 27 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Michael Zucchet
Michael Zucchet

Hand #76: Under the gun, Dana Castaneda raised to 150,000. From the small blind, Michael Zucchet reraised to 375,000. Castaneda just flat called the bet when action folded back to her. On the {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{A-Spades} flop, Zucchet led for 365,000. Castaneda called. The turn came the {5-Diamonds}. Zucchet moved all in and Castaneda called.

Castaneda: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}
Zucchet: {q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Castaneda was ahead, but Zucchet could still pick up the pot with any nine or four to complete his straight. The river fell the {8-Hearts} giving Zucchet a pair, but not a good enough pair to notch him the double up. With that Zucchet was eliminated from the tournament in fourth place.

Philippe Clerc Eliminated in 5th Place ($105,007)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Philippe Clerc
Philippe Clerc

Hand #59: Philippe Clerc Raised to 80,000, and Michael Zucchet called from the big blind. The players saw the flop heads up, and the dealer spread {10-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}. Zucchet checked, and Clerc bet 100,000. Zucchet called, and the dealer turned the {j-Diamonds}. Zucchet checked again, and Clerc bet again, this time for 180,000. Zucchet announced an all-in raise for 1,025,000. Clerc would be at risk if he called, and he went into the tank. After a couple minutes, he called, and the players turned up their cards:

Clerc {k-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Zucchet: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Clerc had a pair of jacks and an open-ended straight draw, while Zucchet had an overpair. The river was the {3-Spades}, a complete brick. Zucchet won the pot, knocking Clerc out of the tournament. He earns $105,007 for his fifth place finish.

Barry Hutter Eliminated in 6th Place ($77,685)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Barry Hutter
Barry Hutter

Hand #55: On the button Jason Bigelow raised to 100,000 from the button. Everyone folded and he collected the antes and blinds.

Hand #56: Matthias Bednarek raised from the small blind and took down the pot when Philippe Clerc folded his big blind for 60,000 more.

Hand #57: After a button raise from Matthias Bednarked, Phillipe Clerc moved all in from the small blind. With action back on Bednarek he folded and Clerc was awarded the pot.

Hand #58: Dana Castaneda raised to 100,000 from the small blind. From the big blind Barry Hutter reraised to 300,000. Back on Castaneda, she called to see a flop. The flop came down {10-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Castaneda led for 400,000. Hutter moved all in over the top of the raise for 1,205,000. Castaneda tanked for about three minutes before finally making the call.

Castaneda: {3-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Hutter: {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

Castaneda made a great call and was well ahead in the hand, but she still needed to dodge and {A-}{K-} or {3-} to win the hand. The {7-Diamonds} on the turn was safe for Castaneda, as was the {3-Clubs} river which improved her to a full house. With that elimination, Castaneda vaulted herself well into the chip lead by eliminating the wire to wire chip leader from days 1 and 2.

Joseph Wertz Eliminated in 8th Place ($44,032), Jacob Bazeley Eliminated in 7th Place ($58,147)

Level 26 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Joseph Wertz
Joseph Wertz

Hand #42: Joseph Wertz moved all in from under the gun for 310,000. He was called by Barry Hutter from the cutoff. In the next seat over Jacob Bazeley reraised all in for 410,000 over the top. In the small blind, Jason Bigelow moved all in for 1,090,000. Action folded back around to Barry Hutter who folded, bringing the three remaining players to a showdown.

Wertz: {j-Hearts}{9-Clubs}
Bazeley: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Bigelow: {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}

The flop came down {4-Spades}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs} giving a little piece to everyone. A pair of jacks for Wertz, and a backdoor flush draw for Bazeley, but it kept Bigelow in the lead. The turn was the {6-Clubs} which gave Bazeley one of the clubs he was looking for. Fortunately for Bigelow, the river was the blank {4-Hearts}, allowing him to eliminate both players. Since Bazeley finished with more chips, he earned the higher of the two payout spots.

Kenneth Gregersen Eliminated in 9th Place ($33,731)

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Kenneth Gregersen
Kenneth Gregersen

Hand #39: Michael Zucchet opened with a raise to 75,000. Action folded to Kenneth Gregersen who moved all in for 675,000. When action folded back around to Zucchet who opened folded his {A-}{Q-}. Gregersen showed his {J-}{J-} as he scooped in the pot.

Hand #40: Gregersen opened the pot with a raise to 75,000. From the small blind, Barry Hutter announced that he was all in. Bazeley folded his big, but Gregersen called quickly all in for his 835,000 chips.

Gregersen: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}
Hutter: {K-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Gregersen got an extreme sweat when the board came down {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. The {4-Diamonds} on the turn was no help to Hutter and it kept Gregersen in the lead, but the {k-Diamonds} was just the card Hutter was looking for on the river. With that, he was able to scoop the entire huge pot and all of Gregersen's chips as Gregersen was sent to the payout desk to collect his winnings.

Zucchet Gets A Double From Hutter

Level 25 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Michael Zucchet
Michael Zucchet

Hand #32: Barry Hutter opened to 65,000 from the button and took down the blinds and antes.

Hand #33: Matthias Bednarek opened the pot with a raise to which Kenneth Gregersen moved all in for 580,000. Action folded back to Bednarek and he folded as well.

Hand #34: From under the gun Bednarek opened to 60,000. Action folded then to Barry Hutter who reraised to 160,000. Action folded to Michael Zucchet in the small blind who reraised all in for 480,000. Hutter thought briefly before making the call.

Hutter: {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}
Zucchet: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

Zucchet was way ahead and he stayed ahead on the {3-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop. He maintained his lead on the {j-Clubs} turn and he was able to dodge a nine on the {a-Hearts} river. That allowed him to double up through Hutter.

Level 24 : 12,000/24,000, 4,000 ante
Nicco Maag
Nicco Maag

Barry Hutter opened the preflop action with a raise to 60,000. Nicco Maag called all in for his last 47,000. Then Kenneth Gregersen called 60,000 from the big blind. Gregersen and Hutter both checked the {10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} flop, then checked again on the {10-Clubs} turn and the {q-Clubs} river. Gregersen showed {4-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, Maag showed {a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, and we only saw Hutter's {a-Spades} as he send his cards toward the muck. Gergersen won the pot with his pocket fours, and Nicco Maag was eliminated in 10th place. He'll earn $26,128.

The remaining nine players will now move to the Main Stage for the official final table.

Molissa Farber open-shoved all in on two consecutive hands. On the first, nobody called, and she picked up the blinds and antes. The second time, Jason Bigelow called and turned over {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Farber showed {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}, and the players were in a virtual coin-flip. The board ran out {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, and Bigelow won the pot with this pocket tens. Farber was eliminated in 11th Place, earning her $26,128.
