The March to the Final Table Begins Here on Day 4

David Bach is looking for his second $50,000 Poker Players' Championship title.
David Bach is looking for his second $50,000 Poker Players' Championship title.

Welcome to Day 4 of the 2013 World Series of Poker $50,000 Poker Players' Championship. What started with 132 players in now down to the final 26, each looking to make the money at the top 16 and then onward to the final table of eight. Ten players will leave today empty handed, and another six will fall short of the prestige that accompanies a final-table appearance.

The man most likely to make the money and be amongst the final 8 is Don Nguyen, the only player to bag over two million chips last night. Others still in contention with seven-figure stacks are Mike Gorodinsky (1,650,000), Minh Ly (1,458,000), Michael Glick (1,130,000), John Hennigan (1,085,000), David Benyamine (1,052,000), Troy Burkholder (1,047,000) and Jonathan Duhamel (1,038,000).

All of those men are well-positioned to make a deep run, but they'll have to fend of some of the shorter stacks like Matthew Ashton (912,000), Bryn Kenney (906,000), George Danzer (779,000), Huck Seed (690,000), Greg Mueller (555,000), Tommy Hang (450,000), Joe Hachem (425,000), David Bach (346,000), Gary Benson (338,000), Joe Cassidy (299,000), Stephen Chidwick (291,000), Erick Lindgren (165,000), Justin Smith (163,000) and John Juanda (89,000).

Action is set to kick off at 2 p.m. PDT, which is a little less than an hour from now. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is already set up in the Blue Section of the Amazon Room and will be bringing you all the latest and greatest from the $50,000 Poker Players' Championship all day long. Stay tuned!

Double Straight Out of the Gate for Juanda

Level 17

Razz

Kevin Song: {3-}{2-} / {7-}{3-}{q-}{2-} / {a-}
John Juanda: {5-}{10-} / {a-}{8-}{7-}{9-} / {K-}

After Kevin Song completed, John Juanda raised all in for his last 39,000. Song made the call and the hands were flipped up. Song was best but immediately paired on fourth, which gave Juanda the lead. In the end, Juanda made a 9-7-8-5-A low and it was good enough to win the pot.

Nice Call by the Italian Pirate

Razz

Tommy Hang: {x-}{x-} / {3-}{2-}{k-}{k-} / {x-}
Max Pescatori: {x-}{x-} / {j-}{5-}{7-}{7-} / {x-}

We picked up action of fourth when Hang bet and Pescatori called. That action repeated itself on fifth and then both players checked sixth. Hang returned to betting on seventh and Pescatori tanked for awhile before calling with {3-}{4-}{k-} for a jack-seven low. It was good as Hang tabled {6-}{6-}{8-} for a king-eight low..

Juanda the First to Go on Day 4

Razz

Kevin Song: {7-}{6-} / {4-}{3-}{9-}{7-} / {3-}
John Juanda: {6-}{5-} / {8-}{a-}{8-}{q-} / {q-}

Kevin Song completed only to have John Juanda raised. The two continued to raise back and forth until the latter was all in for 110,000. Song had a seven-six at the start and was ahead of Juanda's eight-six. The first two cards for song ended up giving him a made 9-7-6-4-3 low while Juanda ended up pairing his eight. He could still win with the right card on either sixth or seventh, but running queens was not what he needed. With that, Juanda became the first elimination of the day.

Cassidy Scores a Triple in PLO

Level 17

Pot-Limit Omaha

Action folded to David Benyamine in the cutoff and he opened for 30,000. Kevin Song came along from the button and then Joe Cassidy three-bet to 126,000 from the big blind. Both Benyamine and Song put in the additional 96,000 and then called when Cassidy bet his last 76,000 on the {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}.

Both active players then checked the {2-Clubs} turn and {5-Diamonds} river, prompting the cards to be turned up.

Benyamine: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{8-Hearts}
Song: {8-Spades}{7-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Cassidy: {a-Clubs}{10-Spades}{k-Spades}{5-Spades}

Cassidy had made two pair and it was good enough to take down the pot and score the triple.

Chidwick Doubles Through Ly

Level 17

Pot-Limit Omaha

Mike Gorodinsky opened for 25,000 from the hijack and received three callers. The {8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop saw Minh Ly, who was in the small blind, lead out for 50,000 only to have Stephen Chidwick, who was in the big, raise all in for 219,000. Gorodinsky folded, Don Nguyen did the same from the cutoff and Ly made the call to put the Brit at risk.

Chidwick: {5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{j-Spades}
Ly: {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

Chidwick flopped two pair and was looking to dodge the diamond draw of Ly. The {5-Spades} turn gave Chidwick a full house, and all he needed to do to survive was dodge a nine on the river. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {8-Hearts}.
