Wiese on the Rise

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante

Jamie Pickering and James Wiese just got involved in a big hand that saw them putting their close-to-even stacks in the middle following a {4-Spades}{8-Hearts}{J-Clubs} flop. That's when Pickering led for 30,000, Wiese raised all in for around 120,000, and after some thought Pickering called.

Pickering tabled {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs} for top pair, an open-ended straight draw, and a backdoor flush draw, while Wiese had {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs} for a wrap draw to a straight and a backdoor flush draw of his own. As it turned out, that latter backdoor flush draw of Wiese's proved meaningful as the turn was the {8-Clubs} and river the {6-Clubs}, giving Wiese a huge double and crippling Pickering to less than 20,000.

Shortly after that hand, Wiese eliminated a short-stacked Peter Charalambous to add still more chips to his stack.
