Idema Gives Up

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Daniel Idema (with his gold bracelet from Event #39)
Daniel Idema (with his gold bracelet from Event #39)

Dan Idema won his second bracelet earlier this series in Event #39 and that fact plus a raise from under the gun doesn't garner the respect it used to in the past. Dan Idema raised to 400 from under the gun and the player on the button and the big blind both come along.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{j-Spades} came and the big blind led for 800. Idema and the button made the call going to the {5-Hearts} turn. The player in the big blind checked and Idema followed with a bet of 2,100. The button again made the call and the player in the big blind folded.

The {k-Spades} came on the river, completing the flush and straight draws and Idema checked over to his opponent on the button. The player bet 5,500 and Idema ended up folding.

Shaniac Busts After Absurd Hand

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Shane Schleger
Shane Schleger

Shane Schleger has been eliminated from the Main Event after what Marvin Rettenmaier described as an "absurd" hand. We didn't catch the action, but thanks to Rettenmaier we know what happened.

A player in seat 1 opened to 300. In seat 3, Jeff Sarwer called the raise. Then, from the cutoff Shane Schleger called. The three players took to a flop of {Q-}{9-}{5-}. On the flop, the player in seat one checked to Sarwer who put out a bet of 500. Schleger called before the player in seat one reraised to 1,500. Both players called.

The turn was an {A-} and from there the player in seat one led for 5,000. Next to act Sarwer made it 10,000. In the cutoff Schleger reraised all in for roughly 25,000. The player in seat one folded, but Sarwer called Schleger's all in for less, leading to a showdown.

Schleger: {9-}{9-}
Sarwer: {A-}{A-}

The river was a brick, but the player in seat one told the table that he folded {Q-}{Q-} for top set on the flop. Rettenmaier wasn't positive, but he did say that he was 95% sure the player was telling the truth, although his cards were never shown.

"Before the hand with Shane, I was getting kind of short," Sarwer explained. "I really needed that. "

After that hand Schleger got the rest of his money in with {A-}{K-} on a {Q-}{10-}{X-} board against another player who had {10-}{10-} and he was eliminated from the tournament when the board bricked out. Here's what Shaniac had to say about his bust on twitter:

Shane SchlegerBusted the WSOP main event level 1. Very unpleasant feeling for a poker player, but in the grand scheme not such a big deal.

It's an unfortunate twist to end Schleger's day but we're sure to be seeing again some time in the future.

Adam Levy Lets the Dealer In On a Little Secret

Adam Levy (Seen Here Playing in Event #58)

We passed by Adam "Roothlus" Levy's table recently to see his {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} tabled on a queen high board containing four diamonds.

His opponent was being pushed the pot however, and it took some straining to discover the source of Levy's bad beat. Without the board being paired, his ace-high flush figured to be the nuts, but the other player, and even the dealer, seemed to think Levy's hand was the loser.

Calmly separating his ace of spades from its counterpart in red, Levy showed the dealer his flush, and the opponent quickly nodded his head in agreement, moving the chips back into the center of the table to await their rightful owner.

Somerville Low Early

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Action folded around to Jason Somerville in the small blind. He called, and the big blind checked. Somerville bet 200 when the flop came {4-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}, and the big blind called. Somerville then check-called his opponent’s bet on the {2-Clubs} turn, and check-called 700 on the {a-Clubs} river. His opponent showed {a-Hearts}{9-Spades}, and Somerville mucked. After the hand, he’s down to 5,600 in chips.
