Pique Scores Himself an Elimination

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante
Gerard Piqué
Gerard Piqué

The hand folded around to Michael Schwartz in the hijack, who opened to 1,400. Gerard Pique made the call from the big blind, as both saw the flop come down {2-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}. Pique checked his option, as Schwartz threw out a continuation bet of 2,200. The bet was called, as the {j-Hearts} fell on the turn. Another check saw Schwartz move all in, for around 7,000 in chips. Pique paused, before making the call for slightly more.

Pique: {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Schwartz: {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}

The {2-Spades} fell on the river, awarding Pique the pot with the higher-kicker.

Shearer Shoves, Ladny Leaves

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Eric Ladny just saw his Main Event run end here in Level 6 after having run into a tough spot in a hand versus Wally Shearer.

The pair had already built a decent-sized pot before the {3-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} flop arrived, at which point Ladny bet, Shearer shoved, and Ladny called all in.

Ladny had {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} for top pair and top kicker, but Shearer was way head with {A-Clubs}{A-Spades}. The turn was the {2-Hearts} and river the {7-Spades}, and Ladny departed.

Mercier Wins Five-Way Pot

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

The under-the-gun player raised the 1,000, and Jason Mercier called, as did three other players. The flop came {9-Hearts}{q-Spades}{8-Clubs}, and action checked to Mercier, who bet out 2,150. Everyone else folded, and Mercier's stack is now up to 35,000.

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Waxman: {q-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Opponent: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

The board ran out with the {7-Clubs} turn and {a-Spades} river and Waxman took an early hit.

With the action returning to Kurita, she pushed a four-bet totalling 7,700 to force the button's cards into the muck before the small blind followed suit.

Tom Dwan Dusted

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante
Tom Dwan
Tom Dwan

Tom Dwan....we hardly knew thee. At least as far as the Main Event is concerned. Dwan sat out all of Day 1 and came into the day with 17,825. Well he was getting involved early and often, and he just busted moments ago.

Action started with a raise to 1,200 by Nicholas Vannewkirk. Dwan was the lone caller, and the two went heads up to a flop of {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Vannewkirk made it 1,500 to go, and Dwan moved all in for 8,000 total. Vannewkirk made the call, and Dwan saw that he would need to catch up.

Dwan: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Vannewkirk: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Dwan was looking for an eight, seven, or running clubs to take the hand. The {k-Spades} on the turn made it just an eight or a seven for Dwan, and the {3-Hearts} came on the river, ending Dwan's WSOP.

Baldwin Calls It

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Eric Baldwin raised to 1,075 from early position and a player in middle position made the call. The flop came {q-Spades}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Baldwin continued for 1,750. His opponent came along to the {6-Clubs} turn. Baldwin bet for 2,800 and his opponent called. Baldwin led for 8,675 on the {j-Diamonds} river and his opponent thought for about 10 seconds before moving all in. Baldwin thought it through and asked the guy if he hit jacks full and folded his aces face up. His opponent turned over pocket jacks to give Baldwin a confidence boost, not that he needs one.

Wang Forces Terry to Fold Trips

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante

Three players were involved to see a {3-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts} flop, it appearing as though Todd Terry had raised from under the gun, Yueqi Wang called from middle position, and the big blind called as well. It checked to Terry who bet 2,000, and Wang raised to 4,000. That chased the big blind, but Terry called without too much hesitation.

The turn was the {6-Clubs}. Terry checked, Wang swiftly set out a bet of 8,000, and Terry called quickly again, leaving himself a little under 16,000 behind.

The river brought the {J-Spades} and another check from Terry. Wang again acted quickly, setting out a stack of chips that was greater than what Terry had left. He exhaled and folded right away, showing one of his cards — the {5-Clubs} — as he did.

Selbst Makes The Right Call

Level 6 : 250/500, 50 ante
Vanessa Selbst from Day 1c.
Vanessa Selbst from Day 1c.

We caught up with Vanessa Selbst in a pot of about 8,000 with another player who was in the big blind.

With the board reading {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{J-Diamonds} the player in the big blind led with a bet of 6,000. After a few seconds in the tank, Selbst called the bet.

The river was the {K-Spades} and the player checked after thinking about it for a few seconds. Selbst thought about it as well for a few seconds but eventually decided to check.

The player in the big blind showed {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs} for a busted straight draw and ace high, but Selbst turned over her {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} for just a pair of threes to go with the pair of kings on the board. Selbst made a good call on the turn with her underpair and because of that, she was able to scoop the decently sized pot.
