Hellmuth Doubles Through Negreanu

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 300 ante
Daniel Negreanu Ships Double Up Chips to Hellmuth
Daniel Negreanu Ships Double Up Chips to Hellmuth

We arrived at the table just in time to find Phil Hellmuth all in for his tournament life of about 20,000 against Daniel Negreanu. Both players took one card at the draw and their hands were tabled.

Hellmuth: {9-}{6-}{4-}{2-}
Negreanu: {5-}{4-}{3-}{2-}

Hellmuth pulled a second {2-} for his fifth card, giving him a pair. Negreanu looked at his card and announced it was a three-across.

"Ah!" said Negreanu. "It's a six. Straight! You're good, buddy."

Negreanu rolled over a {6-}, giving him the straight that allowed Hellmuth to find new life in the tournament.

"Three across is normally an amazing sweat there," said Negreanu with a smile.

"Wow," said Hellmuth. "I was all in there. In razz (referencing his runner-up finish in Event #7: $1,500 Seven Card Razz) I never was all in."

"What about when you busted?" needled Abe Mosseri from across the table. This elicited a a hearty laugh from Negreanu and a chuckle from Hellmuth while he stacked his new chips.

Wright Wants To "Go Deeper" with Danzer

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 300 ante
Larry Wright
Larry Wright

From under the gun, George Danzer raised to 2,400. Larry Wright called from the cutoff seat, and Jason Mercier called from the small blind. Mercier drew two, Danzer took one, and Wright stood pat.

After the draw, Mercier checked, Danzer fired 6,000, and Wright called quickly. Mercier folded. Danzer said that he made a pair again and showed {8-}{4-}{3-}{3-}{2-}. Wright showed {10-}{8-}{7-}{5-}{4-} and won the pot.

"Did you think I stayed with that full house again, George?" joked Wright as he was pushed the pot, referencing a hand from earlier.

"No, I thought you had a 10," responded Danzer.

"Oh really?" questioned Wright.

"Yeah, I thought you had a 10 and that you would raise and then I could go all in and you'd fold," Danzer elaborated.

"Wow, that's deep," responded Wright with wide eyes. "We should get a drink after. I want to go deeper."

Everyone at the table got a big laugh from Wright's final comment, especially Mercier and Nick Schulman. Schulman chuckled, shook his head, and mouthed the word "wow" under his breath.

After all of that, Wright asked Danzer how old he was.

"Thirty," answered Danzer.

"Ahh, the lost age," said Wright.

This comment got Schulman's attention. "Why the lost age? Who told you that" he asked.

"My daughter. You'll have to ask her, I don't know. One day that's what she told me," said Wright.

Kihara Doubles Through Rast

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 300 ante

We found Brian Rast and Naoya Kihara going to the draw with the latter all in for his tournament life of 11,000. Rast announced that he was drawing one card and Kihara stood up from the table.

"I'm pat," said Kihara, rolling over {Q-}{10-}{8-}{5-}{2-}.

Rast rolled over {9-}{8-}{3-}{2-} and was drawing live to score the elimination. He squeezed his card slowly, announcing first that it was paint.

"It's big paint," said Rast, rolling over the {K-Clubs}. Kihara's queen-low finished as the best hand and he was awarded the double up. He's now sitting around 24,000 while Rast has fallen to 41,000.

Bellande Doubles

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 300 ante

Action folded around to the player on the button who made it 2,000 to go. Jean-Robert Bellande three-bet shipped all in for 21,000 from the cutoff and it folded back to the button who called.

Bellande stood pat at the draw while his opponent opted for one card. Bellande fanned {10-}{8-}{7-}{5-}{3-} and his opponent peeked at his new card and mucked his hand. All in hands must be shown, however, so the dealer tabled the {8-}{8-}{6-}{4-}{2-}. Bellande scooped the pot and doubled to around 45,000.

Volpe's Ten is Better

Level 8 : 400/100, 200 ante

Picking up with the action at the draw with about 14,000 already in the pot, both Michael Mizrachi and Paul Volpe took one new card.

Mizrachi fired out a bet of 5,000 and Volpe flung out a call.

"Ten," said Mizrachi.

Volpe fanned {10-}{8-}{5-}{4-}{3-} for a better ten and he was pushed the pot. Volpe is back up to 100,000 in chips while Mizrachi has dropped to 94,000.
