Mike Sexton, inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009, is in the tournament and he has the attention of the table as he recounts hands from the past he was involved in as well as the money he has won and lost in bizarre ways.
Besides capturing their attention, he appears have claimed some of their chips, too.
We just passed by the table of Barny Boatman and the Brit has already more than doubled his starting stack. He even missed out on a potential elimination after raising to 125 and both blinds defended to see the flop. The lady in the big blind check-called 175 and both then checked down the turn and the river.
Boatman thought that his ace was good for sure when tabling for the busted flush draw, but the big blind showed for a pair of sevens on the turn. If a heart comes, Boatman likely gets the whole stack.
The former seat of WSOP Bracelet winner Jorg Peisert was occupied by someone else and two gentlemen on the table confirmed that the German had been eliminated. He ran with pocket threes into eights to hit the rail and the Triple Chance No-Limit Hold’em champion from 2009 cannot take a second chance in this event anymore.
Steve Zolotow is a loquacious and entertaining character in the game so we thought we would stop by his table to catch a bit of what he was regaling his table with.
Unfortunately when we got to his table there was an empty chair where he had been sitting. One of the other players filled us in on what happened.
Zolotow had and his opponent had . Zolotow flopped a set on but the turn and river gave his opponent Broadway and Zolotow was out.
We also have Seniors that use the MyStack app and post updates on Twitter. One of them is Peter Alson, who expressed the wish to play this event every day despite being off to a bad start. This is what happened to him early on:
The PokerNews MyStack App is available for players to use for free throughout the World Series Of Poker, allowing anyone in an event to update their chip count directly on the PokerNews Live Reporting page for their friends and family to see.
You can download the app for iPhone or Android now to get started. Then create a new PokerNews account or update your current one to start updating your status immediately.
Be forewarned, however, any abuse of the app will result in account suspension or termination.
Ian "The Raiser" Frazer raised under the gun for 100 on his 10-handed table (as most of them are at this point) and got called by the small blind and the big blind.
The three players saw a flop of . The gentleman in the small blind led out for 300, the big blind folded, and Frazer made the call.
The turn was the and Frazer called another bet of 500 this time. The river card was the and it was checked to Frazer who bet 675. That got a quick call, but when Frazer turned over his for trips his opponemt stared open-mouthed at it for a moment before slamming his cards down in the muck.
“Wow. You raised under the gun with that?” one of the other players remarked. He sure did.
We did find the tweet of Winamax Pro Michel Abecassis where he posted about his participation in the Seniors Event and then stumbled over him in the Black Section in the Pavilion. However, upon arrival we noticed that he only had a yellow T1000 chip left.
We are about 10 minutes into the second level of play and 4,319 players are showing on the screens, thus we only need another 100 to break the record from last year. Almost five levels of late registration remain, so this should be doable for sure.
